Hence why you would need to hammer out compensation. He obviously wouldn't want to go to a team that got fleeced.

It would also depend on what team he goes to, the talent level, and consequently what each team could give up and still be competitive.

So you really want a coach held here against his will? That makes the entire organization look bad and will make others think twice about coming here to coach

Why does anyone think Loomis would discuss the compensation he would want for Payton, with Payton? I don't see that happening.

My guess will be an extension, maybe a year to match him up with Drew after he takes an extension as well.

you don't make it this far in the NFL to be "against" your will whilst still being a head coach.

I don't think trading a coach is as simple as trading a player. All parties must be happy with the transaction or it'll never happen.

If I'm trading FOR Payton, I need to know a) he's fine with the trade details and b) he's willing to sign an extension with his new team.

If A doesn't happen, then B wouldn't happen, so a team wouldn't even bother.

It's not like a player where he just has to suck up and deal with it. You'd have one disgruntled person running the entire show.

It's unbelievable they are pinning this on Brees when its Loomis' job to think big picture and plan for years ahead. Which he has clearly failed at. I dont blame CSP for wanting out. Saints front Office is incompetent.

Pretty clear Payton needs to know what it'll cost a team to get him while they talk about his pay as well. I don't think Payton would be scared to go to a team cause they had to give up a 1

I wouldnt be surprised if they moved Brees and CSP as a package deal for a 3rd round pick.

drew is the only real hope for this team being good any time soon. If he leaves we're in a serious, deep rebuild.

Also, what kind of job do you expect a guy to do that wants to bolt but cant? Do you really expect much effort?

He is coming off two losing seasons, the saints shouldnt have to do anything to make payton happy, other than pay his salary

I agree to a point, but all I would think Loomis needs to know is where he would be interested in going. Then the compensation is on him. You certainly don't go that far for a player.
