"Held here against his will?" He signed a contract didn't he? I never saw this whole situation as an unhappy coach who's going around looking for offers. This has always been about other teams needing a coach and hearing that he's open to the possibility, never a negative one for Sean hating it here.

Again, if a team wants him they're gonna have to pay up. And if Payton wants to leave that badly, a couple draft picks aren't going to sway this big of a decision.

I will wait for Glazer to comment. He is the only one that I trust to break SP news.

So you really want a coach held here against his will? That makes the entire organization look bad and will make others think twice about coming here to coach
Do you read what you write? He has a fully guaranteed contract. What would it say about a coach that does not want to honor a fully guaranteed contract being paid at the highest level for a coach in the NFL? A team would fully expect the coach to honor the contract he signed.

"Held against his will" may of been a poor choice of words on my part but the point still remains.

Do i hope we get compensation, yes. Do i think it will be a kings ransome, no.

Point is if he wants to bail when times are tough then let him go. That kind of appears like a quitter to me

HC Maronne
OC Pete Carmichael (qb and passing coach under Maronne under Payton)
DC Mike Petinne (former DC under Doug in Buf)
Allen can keep his DB job if he wants

For the record, people break contracts all the time, in every business. They are for the protection of both sides but they are exactly that... Contracts, not sentences.

Cooks was the start of the end, what a waste of a pick

I'm glad SP is being fired, enough of his stupid shite he should lose his job for drafting Cooks alone!!!!

John Brown is a better clone in the 3rd fricking round!!!!

Yeah not aimed at you, agreeing with you. Saying Payton has a contract and must honor it to the letter shows a certain naïveté about how the real works works.

Again, do you read what you write? Coaches contracts are guaranteed so teams always honor the contract one way or another.

I don't think trading a coach is as simple as trading a player. All parties must be happy with the transaction or it'll never happen.

If I'm trading FOR Payton, I need to know a) he's fine with the trade details and b) he's willing to sign an extension with his new team.

If A doesn't happen, then B wouldn't happen, so a team wouldn't even bother.

It's not like a player where he just has to suck up and deal with it. You'd have one disgruntled person running the entire show.

Actually, I think it would be easier. The Saints couldn't care less if Payton would be willing to sign an extension with a new team. The only parties who would have to be happy are the Saints and the team giving them picks. If you are the team acquiring him you are giving him a new contract, not extending the existing contract.

You must be new to sports. Coaches/teams break contracts all the time.

Yeah sure, people break contracts all the time but that doesn't mean they don't experience the consequences of doing so.

It's simple and always has been. If you want to trade for someone that's not a FA, you have to offer market set compensation. The Saints would be idiotic to accept anything less than two or three picks, with at least one of them being a first rounder. What Payton thinks about that isn't in his control at all.

Not new at all. You are just speaking as if a coach is a player. They are much different. Coaches do not walk away from a contract unless they are retiring or going into college. Teams have to honor the contract by paying the rest of the contract if they fire the coach.

He can't coach in the nfl for the next 2 years if he wants to break his contract

He can't communicate with other teams or it is tampering

I agree with that. I never said they dont pay if they breach it. Or they buy out the remaining part of it.
