put this PFF summation of him as a signing somewhere-

Probably the only elite, blue chip player available in free agency this season, Byrd is one of those rare and coveted free safeties with the range, discipline and instincts to play as a Cover-1 safety. In the last two seasons Byrd has only earned a negative coverage grade in seven times and the lowest of those was a -1.0 grade against the Texans in Week 9 last season. His last “red” coverage (of only four in his career) came back in 2011.

Biggest thing that stands out to me is that even in Byrds worst year, he was never negative. So even at his worst, he was still better than Jenkins 60% of the time

Wow. how the hell was our defense that good with Jenkins on the field?????

huge props to the coaches and GM for addressing this.

Some people. Harper was the one that got the most negative attention though. Both were bad but at least Harper was good at SOMEthing.

You have to admit. More people were pointing at Harper than Jenkins for awhile. Maybe not you regulars on this board but the average fan would say Harper was a problem and Jenkins was an up and coming talent. Idk why but its true. In my circles it was true anyway.

That's the most impressive part to me.

Look at those offense and defense record. Terrible; and the only counter to how impressive it is to stand out on a bad defense as a back is the Asomugha argument, but his int's kind of dispell that teams just simply avoided him.

plenty IMO
My biggest fear going into the offseason was that the Saints might give him a deal not even as rich as philly did.

He's fine utility player who could backup 3 positions. Just don't depend on him as a long term starter at any.

Sarcasm?

I've been saying since 2011 that Jenkins is average at best but makes too many mistakes to be a starter. The bad has almost always outweighed the good.

For every Jackson goalline tackle or Bryant strip from behind there are about 30 missed tackles and 5 dropped picks.

Edit:
And yeah Harper was poor in coverage, but I blame the dumb arse coaches for constantly trying to put a square peg in a star hole.

Ryan actually used him extremely well last year.

I understood him not having the instincts. You either have it or you don't. That's reflected in the angles he took. What was unforgivable (and completely correctable) was his shoulder tackling.

The problem with assessing Jenkins is that the potential is there.. He just can't seem to be able to access it. He didn't look that bad in his first season as a safety.. then, well... yeah..

Or where he barely wrapped his arms around a guy trying not to hit him with his body and use his full weight to bring him down.

Yeah his tackling was atrocious.

looking back on it, it was just a terrible pick to begin with. To think a guy that mostly played CB could come in and be an NFL safety.
