He also quickly got out front on the Cooks screen in Baltimore and cleaned up a guy to free him. He looks great, and I absolutely think solidifying the center of our line will positively affect every other facet of our offense. He can make our guards look better.

There was a Mark Ingram screen to the right side just before halftime on Saturday... the announcers pointed out how "Big Jahri Evans was way out in front on that one" and he was... but just as the play was ending, I saw Lelito come in and clean a guy out. He came a long way across the field to make that block. Nice to see everyone getting downfield fast.

I would be interested in seeing a stat after this year is over: TD % for goal-to-go for 2014 with Jimmy, and 2015 without Jimmy.

Pump the brakes hoss, the Cowboys have had one good year so far, they haven't proven anything. I don't disagree about the o line being important though.

Really and they lost in the Divisional round. Why do some people act like they won the super bowl.

Because their defense lost them games, not offense.

That oline turned them into a consistent offense that rarely turned the ball over.

It was even more efficient than a 2011 brees. The numbers weren't as gaudy, but the efficiency was great.

This. Also people realize that Saints are at their best offensively when Brees is well protected & has a consistent run game in his back pocket to lean on. That is exactly what the Cowboys had a year ago & in return, Romo had probably his best season as a pro.

On the other hand, Brees was constantly pressured & harassed in the pocket without the presence of a consistent ground game either which had the team sitting at home when the playoffs came around. Some may say that the defense played a role too. I would be lying if I said they didn't but 2011 showed that when the offense is clicking, the team with Brees at the helm can still be a contender despite what the defense does.

quote:

Strength: Offense, in general. New Orleans excelled in every aspect of offensive football. Saints runners – spearheaded by Darren Sproles's 6.9 yards per carry – averaged 4.9 yards per rush, good for fourth in the league. Collectively, they rushed for 2127 yards, sixth best in the league, and sixth best in team history. Six players tallied over 500 receiving yards; the rest of the NFC South combined for nine. The offensive line was the best in football, anchoring the pass game by surrendering only 24 sacks, and helping the Saints convert a league-best 56.7 percent of their third downs on the ground and through the air.

And then there was Brees, who's making a strong case for the best offensive free agent ever signed. Since his acquisition in 2006, the Saints are 63-33, with five playoffs wins and a Super Bowl championship. Brees has thrown for 28,394 yards and 201 touchdowns in New Orleans, an average of 4732 yards and 33 touchdowns per season. He made 2011 his masterpiece, obliterating several major passing and scoring records while throwing to only one Pro Bowler: fellow record-breaker and second-year tight end Jimmy Graham.

quote:

Weakness: Pass defense. The Saints allowed 4,157 passing yards in 2011, third worst in the league. Superficially, it's a major problem. Realistically, it's a product of defending huge leads and a ton of opposing pass attempts. They finished a respectable (if mediocre) 16th in Defensive Real Passing Yards Per Attempt and finished top-10 in Bendability ... but yards allowed was never the problem. New Orleans ranked 25th in Defensive Real Quarterback Ranking, failed to consistently rush the passer, and averaged an interception once every 69.5 opposing pass attempts – the worst mark in the league.

draw back which we seen first hand 3 times is goalline/close redzone jimmy graham impacts.

What 3x have we seen that?

Also, maybe we'll be able to punch it in from the 1 this year unlike last year where we suffered goal line stands against the Bengals x2 and the ravens

Also, football outsiders disputes red zone efficiency stats as it is inconsistent year over year and doesnt correlate with overall offensive efficiency

Even so, the Saints finished 7th last year on RZE. I expect us to do better

If Max Unger has the impact I think he will, I'll let him bang my girlfriend if that's what he wants. Brittany Brees better be on his speed dial if his play allows Drew to ball out.

has anyone watched any of their preseason games? how do their RBs look? curious because the RB talent is really mediocre behind a great line. wondering which wins out there.

Agree with TigerBait... one of our weaknesses recently has been not being able to get one yard when everyone knows we're coming. Feels like we've seen Ingram get stoned in the backfield on 3rd or 4th and 1 a gazillion times.

Plays were mainly focused on Jimmy Graham last year in the red zone. No teams know what to expect this year and I think we will have more success running in the redzone, esp with good o-line play

In before "Unger Management" pun.

He has looked good in his action this year so far and was very productive in Seattle.

Well, we see that Seattle is hurting because of this loss. They brought in some scrub center the other day to compete for a spot.

I always thought the Seahawks overreacted to the final super bowl play in going after Jimmy... They already had the guy on the roster who could have scored that TD.

Oh well. Good for us
