In a vacuum, if I had the choice between Malcolm Butler and that pick is choose Butler every time. But the context is that they just traded their best WR to NE for that pick and a third rounder.
Would have been nice to sign either Gilmore or Bouye and keep the picks we got for Cooks. Seems the Saints were infatuated with Butler instead though and it will cost us both the money and the pick.

deuce mcallister? @dmcallister26

FYI don't expect a contract agreement to be announced until compensation is worked out between Pats.

I read that in my Deuce McAllister voice and it took 2 min and it was filled with multiple 'uhh's

What I don't think people understand is we need to win now and that's what this move is about. A prime CB or the 32nd pick, give me Butler any time.

I agree. All of us would rather butler, but to me the value is poor if you're trading that for butler. An elite pass rusher hk as higher value and Jones only cost a 2nd

Online people think I'm either black, a woman or in my 40s

I'm real life people think I'm in my early 20s

What a time to be alive.

Dumbass, the kid had one good year and is going to require a huge salary and long term contract. That is why NE wants to get rid of him. Great teams are built through the draft. The 2009 Saints were a result of the 3 previous drafts.
This is a really deep CB draft. I would take 2 CBs or a CB and a safety with the first 5.

1 good year? He was second only behind Peters in terms of getting his hands on the ball the last two years combined. And the year before he wasn't too shabby.

This, the 32nd I'm all for giving up; the 11 I'm iffy but it's hard to argue considering the short term aspirations of the team even the 11th pick.

From EVERY report 11 is not on the table and never has been.

Latest report is it may not even be 32, but 42 and "some change".

Not sure if I should trust a poster who was right before, or an "expert" who gets a lot wrong.

He is 27. I know you like him but I would rather keep the pick. I wouldn't give up more than a third for someone that is possibly going to be 32 when we are paying him the most. And he was beat up pretty bad a couple of times this year.

Corners aren't like HBs. They don't drop off a cliff at 30.

As long as he keeps his legs healthy he can easily play at a high level until he's 35.

Plus the last year or two of a contract is designed to be a cut/renegotiation point anyway. The dead money is very minimal at that point.

I wonder if this shite will all be settled tomorrow. I sure hope so.

I read tweets earlier saying there is no rush, but to me this is a deal that shouldn't take forever. You have to change your draft plans, who you might want to get in FA, etc.

We can't just force Butler to want to play here. That was the point of the visit. He didn't need to come here to talk contract.

Word is it was a good visit so I guess the next steps is him deciding if he wants to play here or stay with the Pats, and if the Pats are willing to sign him long term and if their offer is as good or better than ours.

It's a ton of moving parts that can't be rushed. But it will be settled within the next week, if not tomorrow.

He may have needed to fly back to sign his tender in person before anything else could happen.

I think in this case both teams are already set on their plans.

I don't see it as causing a situation where either team feels they need to get it done or they might not want to miss out on any FA CB that are still out there one way or the other.

30 is relevant when it comes to CB's. Maybe not as much as RB's but it is definitely a factor. WR's can play into their mid 30's but it is not the norm for CB's to play at a high level. LINK

Like I said health is key and he has stayed healthy thus far. If he keeps that up then it won't be an issue.

Most of these guys get dinged up and never come back the same.

Come on. That comes with age. You don't heal as fast. You also slow down, lose a step. Look at Revis this year, the year he turned 30.
