I'd love to see Stephone Anthony get traded for a 4th or 5th round draft pick tomorrow. Hopefully someone will take a flyer on him and try to kick start his career.

As it stands we have good 3-deep at all 3 LB spots.

Adam Bighill is a CFL import and was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2015. He's a 4 time CFL all star. I think he might make some noise on special teams, and maybe even be #2 at WLB if Ellerbe gets injured as usual.

And if Anzalone stays healthy I think he starts at SLB.

quote:

SLB: Alex Anzalone, Nate Stupar, Travis Feeney
MLB: AJ Klein, Manti Teo, Stephone Anthony
WLB: Dannell Ellerbe, Craig Robertson, Adam Bighill

Anyone member when Anthony had a good rookie season and we were all stoked?

I member..

Hopefully this ol boy from Florida can keep his shoulder intact long enough to use his immense athleticism to play and produce early.

Anzalone might start, but...

Biggest concern:

Struggles to disengage from blocks once locked onto; tends to stop his feet on contact and is too easily engulfed by bigger blockers.
Lacks explosive closing burst, which shows up both on blitzes and in coverage.
Tries to simply outrun blockers to the point of attack; rarely uses his hands to protect his frame.
Doesn’t read pulls and lead blocks well and consistently gets sealed out of his gap.
Will stop his feet and miss tackles; ranked 240th among FBS ILBs in tackling efficiency.
Limited coverage experience in Florida; in three seasons gave up completions on 18 of 24 throws into his coverage with one pass breakup and no interceptions.
Needs to improve his strength – too easily moved off his spot by all blockers.
Injuries limited him to only 577 career snaps at Florida.

All valid, but his competition over there is Nate Stupar. I like his chances.

Sam also only plays 25-33% of the snaps.

Being 3 deep+ at safety and lots of potential corners I see that number being on the low side.

You put him put in certain sub packages that play to his strengths and get his feet wet.

Good. That seems to be the amount of time he's healthy enough to play - 25-33% of the time.

Oh damn.

Ellerbe should switch to Sam too then.

I'm anxious to see our LBs play under a great LB coach in Nolan! Anthony may return to rookie year form under him. We shall see.

Do you not remember how good Robertson was at SLB??? Dude is definitely going to start. Anzalone was drafted to complete for WLB because Ellerbe can't stay healthy.

Anzalone is a 3rd down linebacker at best. Loomis has a history of drafting injured players. I would have loved to see him picked in the 5th or 6th round; 3rd round is reaching.

I'm not ready to give up on Anthony yet.

His disappearance from the rotation was too mysterious to be about "not knowing the playbook", or whatever. I think he might have been put in the dog house.

I hope he gets it together.

Could have traded the Anzalone pick and moved up 1 spot to get Rueben Foster at 31. Such a missed opportunity
