Peat was much more unpolished than Ramczyk.
It's almost consensus around the league and by every scout that he can come in and play RT or LT day 1. He's a hell of a run blocker too.
I think the Wisconsin OL coach said he's the best offensive lineman he's coached since Joe Thomas.

I don't think the situations are similar. From what I remember, everyone liked Frederick, and thought he would be good. The problem was Frederick wasn't expected to go nearly that high, and Dallas was seen to have not gotten enough when they traded down.
The Saints situation is more people thought they needed to go defense with that pick, and got a tackle with a potentially bad hip in a bad tackle draft.

The problem is you don't draft 1st rounders to be "depth".
Draft should be best player available. Looking to just fill needs in the draft is how teams end up reaching for players. Take the need player if available players are rated close on your board.

Disagree. Teams do not always draft best available player. Say the saints had a decent back up QB, do you think they would go QB in the first round if the best player up was a QB? I don't. Or I hope we wouldn't.
Bottom line I think Ramzyck starts. I don't think he was drafted to build depth.

Payton straight up said we were taking Mahomes if Lattimore was picked before us.
And Buffalo said they would have picked Lattimore if they stayed put.
A lot of people here should be sending Handy Andy thank you cards.
Position does factor in, but it should (and for better drafting teams does) matter much less than grade. There are so many circumstances and factors that can adjust your situation, but as a general rule you take bpa regardless of position.

Streif will start at RT but likely by the middle of seasom Ramcyzk will be starting!!

It really doesn't matter if he starts this year or not. You do NOT draft one year at a time and Strief's last year was definitely next year (but now may be this year).
That fact aside we played with a tackle eligible for over 250 snaps (about 12.5 per game) last year. So even if he doesn't start he will likely have that role.
Then it will be poetic when the former Mr. Eligible gets replaced by the new Mr. Eligible (assuming he doesn't actually win the start this year).

While everyone says our defense needs massive improvement (understandable) if the Saints do not maintain the offensive dominance they will fail also. Also these value offense picks will help extend Brees's career and create a solid foundation for his eventual successor.

People already forgot how bad of shape our line was in just in 2014. It had fallen into bad shape because we mostly neglected it or made a couple of mistakes the few times we did try to address it.
The Oline is super important to ANY team's success. Ask Wilson how he feels running for his life all of last year. If it wasn't for their D they would have been awful.

I'm with you on this bro.
Just going through the thread and general draft complaints... not picking up an EDGE earlier is #1 complaint.
Marcus Williams is fine pick, I don't see any over-valuing at all. #42 is a great spot for him and right in the ballpark. If you read a lot of pre-draft stuff, Saints were tied to Marcus Maye who went #39. Generally draft success is being on the front end of a run, rather than the back end --- How DE worked out for us.
I'm pretty sure an accepted winning thought is to build your teams strong up front and work back. Grabbing big uglies on OL and DL are that effort. Alongside an above average QB, that's the recipe.

The only reason people were upset about that pick is because offensive linemen aren't "sexy" picks.
They are if you know football.
