Not sure if this was posted yet as it came out yesterday, but didn't see it linked when I searched. Lyons Yellin posted an interview with Galette on this situation.
I really find it funny how the dude is trying to own up to this stuff by not actually owning up to it.

Here is a gem of his excuse making:

Here is a gem of his excuse making:
quote:
He said he never meant to criticize the Saints' 2009 championship team. He was simply trying to instill confidence in "his guys."
"Are you serious?" he asked. "I had a few players that are down right now and lost some confidence. I was trying to boost their confidence."
Galette said Payton told him it's always a bad idea to compare players.
"I bet you if we were 12-2 when I said that it wouldn't have mattered. But the fact that at the time I said it we were probably like 5-5… (I was trying to) boost my guys and lift their confidence up. People were enraged, they were irate."

This guy reminds me of Reggie the clinger in Ballers on HBO. Only he's the one with the Pro-Bowl caliber ability as a 3-4 DE/OLB in the League.
$40 million dollar athletic ability with a $.40 head.

But we weren't 12-2. And he wouldn't have said it if we were 12-2.

A team that is 12-2 doesnt need someone motivating them. It comes from within each individual. We had too many divas living off the coat tails of the past SB.

uhh...no. did you ever read the quotes?
"I mean, c'mon, who are you talking about?" He asked, laughing. "The guys that replaced them are better than they were."
"Here, the guys that replaced them are better than the guys we had. It's not even close. Across the board," Galette said. "I'll take Kenny Vaccaro any day over any safety. And I'll take (Cam Jordan) over any defensive end. Jairus Byrd over any safety."
"Lofton is putting up numbers Vilma never put up. So. It is what it is," Galette said.
"I feel like, you know, he's (Will Smith) never been a better player than me, regardless from whatever stage he was at. Or Cam."
Saying something like:
"I think our guys have the potential to be better than the 2009 team"
is a lot more inspirational.

I never had a problem with that statement. I don't agree with it, but i understood where he was coming from. The only people who had a serious problem with it were people who were looking for something to complain about.
He got bigger problems to explain away than that.

People would have raised eyebrows at that regardless of record. Having to down talk people to build yourself up is what assholes do.

The fact that he had no idea what our record was when he said this makes me feel like he's lying through his teeth.

This.
I don't care how much talent you have on paper. What that defense was missing last year was something you can't put a stat on. The '09 team had it - shite, the '13 team had it too! With many of the same players that were on the squad last year. They just talked too much, thought it would come easy, didn't prepare, didn't have any aspirations to be better than they were in '14.
The fact that Junior STILL doesn't realize that makes me sick. He thinks it's all about numbers.

Obviously bull shite.

True statement as far as number of tackles but I'd still take Vilma in his prime over Lofton.

True statement.
The only thing out of line is the Vaccaro or Byrd > Sharper. Still a bad idea to say it the way he did but it's not like he was shouting that he they were better than the Dome Patrol. 09 was a pretty average defense with a couple of play makers in a scheme suited to their strengths.
