Only 2 or 3 of those guys even have what it takes to start in the NFL no matter how long they sit behind a HOF QB. I would rather find out early if our young QB is trash rather than building in other places while the "QB of the future" waits his turn. Then, when he finally takes the field, everyone realizes he's garbage.
But you would know that before four years. Those guys I named were drafted to be starters and thrust into a starting role. If you pick an A. Murray in the 4th, you know he's garbage in two years and can draft Maty Mauck or Trevor Knight in two years and cut Murray.

I'm willing to bet that half of those guys would have been viable if Sean Payton was their HC.
I mean i'm a homer too but c'mon

I didn't say they would be great. I just said viable.
I am a firm believer that the coaches are a lot more responsible for a QBs success than people think. Brees was pretty good his last few years in SD but he wasn't even close to what he became once he was here. You're telling me he becomes the same QB he is today if he goes to Miami? Because I don't buy that crap.
Obviously a players talent has a lot to do with it and some guys are just going to be amazing wherever they go (see Manning, Peyton) but that is a rarity.
I'm one of those "crazies" who is against the popular opinion that Tom Brady was a "gem" in the draft. If he doesn't end up with the Hoodie he is an insurance salesman right now. That isn't to say he isn't an amazing QB NOW, but it's not like he was just like this flawless talent that somehow fell to the 200th pick or whatever. He was molded into what he is.
So I stick my by statement. I am confident we will field a good offense with a viable QB as long as Sean Payton (the greatest offensive mind in the league) is our coach.

No, but he was handing the ball off to LT. I also don't think that he would have been the same in Miami either. I think Payton and Brees benefit mutually from each others skill set.

The Saints will draft a QB this season. Bookmark it, sons
Agreed, Gyno.
1st, 2nd, 3rd Rounds: DB, WR, DE/OLB in some order... only if someone like Marcus Martin fell to the third do I think we prioritize Center over those 3 positions.
I could see us using one of our 5ths to move up in the 4th to take the QB we want... (Murray)
and Stork's stock is down a bit, and could be had with the other 5th...
6th round pick, hell, Boswell or Fera... why not take a kicker? DRAFT OVER (drops mic)

I'm not saying we need to get a QB this year, but if you aren't looking for a replacement QB, you are usually going to end up doing what the Jets and Bills and Miami and Texans and Chiefs and Bears and Vikings and Raiders and Eagles have been doing...Chasing Quarterbacks.
Hard to argue against this. Like a lot of folks, we shouldn't go into the draft targeting a QB, but if one falls in our lap, you take him. Having a "up and comer" at the QB spot gives you a lot options: A. someone who gives you a shot at winning a few games when your starter goes down, B. the replacement when your starter retires, gets cut or traded for declining performance, and C. trade material.

I wouldn't mind using the 5th or 6th on Tajh Boyd or Logan Thomas. Boyd reminds me a lot of Russel wilson although he did have 2 ballers as his receivers. Wilson only had one in Toon

When in the last few years have the bears been "chasing" a QB?
And the rest are chasing QB's cause they don't have a #1.
Is denver NE seattle SF Atl carolina KC bengals Saints etc bangin hard for a 2nd QB?

First, as it was already mentioned, we don't know what the Saints think of Griffin. He could be the future. We simply don't know.
Second, if there is a value pick for a QB in the 4th or 5th rounds I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed if the Saints made the pick.

The thing for me, is that our offense doesnt require a QB to have to have all the prototypical "physical tools" that a lot of NFL systems do.
What this Sean Payton offense needs is a guy that is very accurate and very smart. He needs to be able to do a lot of pre snap reads and checks. And once its snapped, make the proper read and be decisive with them. Get the ball out quick.
Because of the system that we run, Brees will be able to play longer than most people realize. And, that allows us a lot of freedom when ti comes to finding our QB after Brees. And its obvious we like Ryan Griffin a lot. The Rams and Bears both wanted to sign him from our practice squad when they were in need of a QB, but we promoted him to the game roster to block them from doing that. We wouldnt have done that if we didnt like him or think he can be the guy for the future.
But, we will see. We dont need to do anything right now, but we could. Who knows.

I'm going to go out on a limb and agree with this. We could be proven wrong, but, damn, you have to take a position.

I think this is definitely true, but I'm just not sure it's in the way that everybody thinks.. I think they like him a lot as maybe a good back up but I just don't see them thinking he is the future of the franchise. It's not very often that UDFA QBs go on to become good players.. in fact, I'm pretty sure there is only one that is even worth noting.

We bring Dante` Culpepper out of retirement.... He was Payton's second choice originally

They put him on the roster cause they feared losing him. That's a decision by Sean Payton, so he must think something of him.

There's a few more than one:
1. Warren Moon
2. Kurt Warner
3. Jeff Garcia
4. Jake Delhomme
5. Tony Romo

But as what? A good back up or as a future starter.

If there is a great value in Round 5 or later, sure, take a swing. But I think Rounds 1-4 need to be players in positions of need for the next couple of seasons. I want the Brees-Payton era to end with at least 2 rings!

RG4
But anywho
Like it has been said before most vets don't "train or teach" the rookies that's the coaches job. Why would you help the guy trying to take your job?
See: Brett Farve, Aaron Rodgers
