false, they were decimated by injuries last year

and that actually hurts your argument IMO
Exactly what I was saying.

If he was the only major player hurt, then he is conceding that Manning's worth is ridiculously high, and would be worth $23mil/year. YOu see where I'm going with that.

But also, you're right. Brackett and Bullitt, 2 team captains mind you, were gone for the year pretty early on, IIRC.

They were definitely hit with injuries last year, it's way off base to say he was the "only major player with injury"

Considering Manning got $23 over the 1st 3 years, that's too low. Plain and simple, just too low.

The Manning deal was a bad deal for the Colts. Even if he hadn't been hurt, it was still a bad deal. His cap numbers going forward would have hurt the team.

I understand Brees from the perspective of looking at how much his contribution means and comparing that to what the Saints made in profit, BUT the salary cap is what it is and 20% of it for him is bad for the team. It makes it worse since Brees said he wanted what was best for the team and to be able to keep Nicks and Colston...which all seems like bullshite now.

Don't know if accurate, but we've also heard they offered him a new contract last year at about $18 million, which he turned down. He would have made $8 million more last year if this is true. Let's not forget the big upfront signing bonus that comes with these contracts. I'm just not feeling sorry for Brees right now. He's either being greedy or his ego is making him stupid.

That's way too low.

If Brady got $18mil and Manning got $23 mil, the correct number should be somewhere in the middle. And none of us really know if there was any middle ground.

If the market demands one player on the roster take up 20% of the salary cap, then either the cap or the market needs to change

I will try to say this again, in more clear terms, that my 5 year old nephew can understand.

If you tie too much money into one player, you cannot surround him with other good players. You have to surround him with sub-par players. So when your overpaid player is dout with injury, you are left with sub-par players. If you do not overpay a player, when he goes down with an injury, you still have good players and your team does not suck as bad.

Look, I'm not a Tom Brady fan. But He has 3 Superbowl Rings, and the contract in which Drew was offered would have made him the highest paid QB in the NFL. MORE THAN BRADY! Not to mention a huge signing bonus! I love Drew and want him to retire here, but that doesn't mean he should get a king's ransom that will set the franchise back!
i hear the total money offered to him is not the issue ,he just wants the bulk on the front end of the contract.if thats correct what happened to drew saying he is willing to structure his contract to help sign other free agents.

This pretty much shows me that drew thinks the team is in semi rebuilding mode for the next couple of years leaving a couple of years after that to get another superbowl before he loses it. This also makes me hate drew brees currently.

Take your bazillion trillion dollar contract and suffer with that 7 grand less a day. I know it will be hard.

Drew Brees Looks very greedy at this point, he is killing the entire team, if we pay him what he wants the rest of the team will be shitty

funny how everyone is restructuring their contracts to help him and he could give a frick less about them

All y'all saying pay him the damn money because he's'great, just aren't thinking. If you pay him the damn money there is <40 mil left to build a whole damn team with. If Brees can truely win 13+ games a year and another SB with $250k receivers, lineman and tight ends...than I'm all for it. If he truely needs a supporting cast, then you just can't give him a blank check. If you do rebuild the team to have no cast and Brees goes down, the franchise will absolutely be worthless...ala Indy without Peyton.

i've been wondering how much of the contract negotiations are handled by brees... is it his agent thats dragging this out? is he in drew's ear telling him not to take the lower amount of money so he can get a bigger cut of it?

i'm not saying this is the case, but i surely wouldn't put all of this on drew

When they restructure, they don't lose any money. It's not a selfless act like you're making it out to be.

F THAT, He brought this city and team from rust to gold and won us a d*mn Super Bowl, n we all know we will be in contention for another for some years, pay the man his money cause your not going to get anything better,go trade for tim tebich n see wat u get. Yall crying cause he want more, first what would u do if you were him... Wait don't answer that you're not him. Pricks. And its true he would be who he is without sean payton and the oc but no other qb would be who he is in this system,

If you pay him what he wants then you lose Nicks. Brees should realize that Nicks is pretty damn crucial to his success. He has been the least sacked QB in the last 3 years. You get rid of Nicks and that will probably change. Also, I remember about a week after we lost to the Niners, Drew said something on his twitter that was along the lines of "My heart hurts, I love this team..." If he really "loved" the team, he would sign for what the Saints offered him, which is a very fair deal if you ask me.
