Im just going to ballpark these figures because honestly I do not know, but you'll get my point.

Tom Brady has made around, lets say, 90 Million over the past 6 years.

Peyton Manning has made around, lets say, 100 Million over that same span.

Drew Brees has made around 60 Million over that span.

And Drew Brees has been the most dominant QB and has had 6 of the best and the best years ever for a QB...

Not only that he pretty much brought the Saints up from ashes.

He's asking for basically 15 million in compensation for that...

fricking give it to him. He's been underpaid for 6 years.

drew wasnt as good as those two guys when he signed his last contract. plus he was injured and we gave him alot of guaranteed money when no other team wanted to touch him. im all for making him the highest paid player ever, but he is being ridiculous with what he wants.

I do not care who you are. Demanding a contract that will take up 20% of the entire cap and will gut a team is selfish. However, I recognize he is just doing what an elite QB does when he knows your only other options are Chase Daniels and a Second Round pick if they do not pay you.

Because of what the media thinks? LOL

According to this article he was offered 18.5 mil per year

Considering Manning got $23 over the 1st 3 years, that's too low. Plain and simple, just too low.

That is what this jerk off doesn't understand. We now definitely going to lose nicks behind this. and now with the cap room left after Drew does sign a 20ish million dollar a year deal, we will lose Colston Mechaem and will struggle to sign any pieces for the D via free agency. But it doesn't matter Drew won a superbowl and broke a record so he just get whatever he wants.

Man I love Drew, but damn some people went bat shite crazy after the SB win and lost common sense to how the business side works.

I love how everyone thinks it's just so easy to be settling for being underpaid.

Brees was underpaid on his last contract, and now we want him to be underpaid again.

I'd love to see any of us fans be underpaid at our own jobs for 5 years, then have your boss ask you to be underpaid for 5 more years so he could pay everyone else. I'm sure that would go over real well with you guys.

Drew Brees is an elite QB no doubt. An elite QB does you no good when he has no one to throw it to and no one to block for him and he has to score 50 points a game just to outscore other teams. js

Just look at the Colts and what happened to them for making the team a one player entity.

You mean the contract he got when no one knew if he would ever throw the ball the same again? The contract he got after Miami decided Dante Culpepper (sp) was a better options?

You mean the current contract that will make him the highest paid player in the NFL?

They were 14-2 in 2009 and in the SB under that Manning deal, I'm pretty sure.

I can answer that extremely simply, looking back on it, did we get bad value, decent value, or off the charts fricking awesome value for Brees?

Guaranteed money is what they care about.

he completely outplayed the contract regardless of the circumstances. He could have held out for more money during it, but he respected the Saints for taking the risk on it.

I am pretty sure they were 2-14 or 3-13 last year when he was the only major player with injury.

Even without this "gutting the team" deal(which is such a laughable term), take brees off of last year's team and insert Curtis Painter.

You think the Saints are winning 5-8 games with Painter in at QB?

Also, your exact post just shows why the QB actually is that important to warrant getting that much money. It's kind of a contradiction if the QB is worth 6-8 wins, isn't it?

Do you think Brees wins 13-14 games a year without Nicks and Evans (both of them) keeping his jersey clean? Without a WR like Coltson? Without a defense that can hold a team to less than 28 points a game?

So, where do you draw the line?

If Brees takes $14mil/year, imagine how much better we'd be.

Well then, he should take $6mil/year, right? We'd be that much better.

shite doesn't work that way. He outplayed his last contract, there is no question about that. Why should he settle again? $18mil/year is way low when manning got $23mil. It just is, no way around it.

And again, you still contradict yourself. You say 1 player isn't worth 20% of a salary cap, then turn around and admit that Manning was worth 6-8 wins for his team. That certainly sounds like a player who is worth 20% of a team's salary cap to me.

Also, in no way, shape or form, would the team be "gutted" if we gave him $23mil/year.

false, they were decimated by injuries last year

and that actually hurts your argument IMO
