At least Brady has won 3 and been to 5 Super Bowls! Brees 1 and trying to gut the team to be the highest paid QB?

Take in Manning for $21 million over 4 years, sign Moss and Colston, and bid DB adios! He isn't Brady just selfish.

Its amazing to me how fast some of you turn on the best player we have ever had. They are negotiating. Give it time. Damn.

you obviously do not have a clue to understanding how a salary cap works. Paying a single player 20% of your entire allotted payroll requires management skills that may not be possible. We're already losing Nicks over this (non franchiseable now).

Look, I'm not a Tom Brady fan. But He has 3 Superbowl Rings, and the contract in which Drew was offered would have made him the highest paid QB in the NFL. MORE THAN BRADY! Not to mention a huge signing bonus! I love Drew and want him to retire here, but that doesn't mean he should get a king's ransom that will set the franchise back!

I agree with this!

That is what this jerk off doesn't understand. We now definitely going to lose nicks behind this. and now with the cap room left after Drew does sign a 20ish million dollar a year deal, we will lose Colston Mechaem and will struggle to sign any pieces for the D via free agency. But it doesn't matter Drew won a superbowl and broke a record so he just get whatever he wants.

Man I love Drew, but damn some people went batshit crazy after the SB win and lost common sense to how the business side works.

If they do give DB what he wants, he'll use that money on medical bills. We lucked out having DLP to replace Goodwin and Kruetz. But do we have anybody that will keep Dts off Brees and run block like Nicks? I've been telling people I know for weeks that the Saints can't just give him whatever he wants. And it amazes me that the 'experts' on ESPN keep saying "just pay the man".

Sign Nicks, make a decision on Colston and Meachen, tell Drew our offer is on the table take it or leave by X day. Then let the chips fall. You can't wreck a franchise financially for one player no matter how good they are, this is a team sport. I love Brees on the Saints, but business is business.

ok so what should we do exactly? Not pay him what he wants and have the entire city riot because his cap hit would be too much? What you're saying makes sense but there aren't too many choices in this situation

Nobody is arguing how great he is, or how much he means to the organization. But the organization did offer him a contract making him the highest paid QB in the NFL, and a huge bonus!

The man deserves to be paid no doubt, but do you think that he should be paid so much that it becomes detrimental to the team?

Fans are just upset with Drew because we was all expecting him to gives a discount, and which he does portrey that winning SBs is more important to him than being the highest paid player. Turns out we were wrong but i still dont blame the man, he deserves it.

I think what you're trying to say is that the reason we're upset with Brees is because he told us--both in words and in characters--that he would take less money to preserve the team.
Then, he wants 23 million, allegedly.

Those are extremely inconsistent.

There has to be a limit to "Pay the man what he wants."

If the Saints let Drew walk, wrecking the franchise is exactly what will happen, not to mention the locals will burn the Saints facility to the ground. Everything good that has happened to the saints on the field the last few years has gone through Brees, period.

probably true, but on the other hand, if we sign Brees for what he is asking it will wreck the franchise also.
