It wouldn't even be next year, if I'm following him correctly. It would be 2019.
If I'm getting his point, the Pats COULD get a 3rd round compensatory pick if he signs his tender with the Pats, plays the season, and they lose him to FA in 2018.
In that scenario, assuming they don't make corresponding deals, the COULD get a 3rd Rd compensatory in 2019 (compensatories are based on the previous offseasons moves, not the current offseason)
So in 2019, Brady and Belichek could be walking off into the sunset.

Oh ok.
I'm going to go post on Reddit and say he's getting moved for a 2021 7th round conditional pick.

no matter how much we'll bitch, Butler will be a better asset for the next 3-4 years within our window than any other pick would be.

I don't give 32 if I'm Loomis/Payton. I hope not at least.

Uh oh. I really want him, but that's pushing it.

They aren't. Again, I don't even think they give 42.
If they give up 32 I will absolutely lose my shite.

just some info on patriots remaining draft picks this year:
quote:
As of Monday, they owned seven picks
(listed by round-overall):
3-72, 3-96,
4-132,
5-163, 5-183,
6-200,
7-239.
That’s no first- or second-round picks, two third-round picks, one fourth-round pick, two fifth-round picks, one sixth-round pick, and one seventh-round pick.

give them 32, give us back a late 3rd...?

Patriots have never had that mindset. They love trading down and gaining future draft picks.
That's a completely different argument.
A 3rd round comp pick in 2019 is absolutely not worth more than the 11th pick in the 3rd round of the 2017 draft.
They could, using your take, turn in the 2017 3rd round pick into more picks given it's higher value around the league

No.
Personally I am not touching 11, 32, or 42 for Butler and giving him a huge deal. No thank you.
I posted recent NE Deals for players of at least somewhat similar value, that had time remaining on their contracts.
Butler has none. He's getting paid right now. His value is lower than Chandler Jones, for instance, IMO.

He has value at 3.2 M first year

I just don't see the Pats moving him for less than a 2nd. The value of him playing opposite Gilmore is greater than a 3rd round pick, even taking out the comp pick IMO.

right but how many can they not use this year? is it just the 4th?

Just the 4th

That list already took out the forfeited pick #118 I believe.

Like I said:
Chandler Jones, 2nd round pick, still had his 5th year option left.
Jamie Collins, 3rd round pick, had a few months left on rookie deal.
Malcolm Butler is getting paid right now, big. That's negative value.

I'm interested to see how Butler's deal compares to a potential deal for Breaux (RFA) next year. With him and Vaccaro nearing FA, we could have a pretty expensive secondary next year. Hopefully we have a pass rush to compliment, or that will be a lot of wasted money.

Could see us parting with our highest 3rd this year and a 2018 2nd round pick
