worried about compensation. would love butler but not at cost of high contract and a 1st round pick. a 3rd for butler would be dynamite.

Yes, the talks better be for a trade. No way giving up the 11th is worth this.

I'd prefer to give less than #32, but we'd never give them #11 for him.

There's usually at least 3 edits with a Chad breaking news thread.

I don't really understand how this is going to work.

If we outright sign him and they don't match, we have to give up #11 and absolutely frick THAT.

Maybe we can workout a deal with them, but I'm really not interested in giving a guy a HUGE deal and then giving him them big compensation. Maybe the lesser 3rd back.

Otherwise...meh.

just curious how much leverage NE has in this considering it is well known he wants out and they just signed gilmore?

Obviously some considering many teams want him, but I just hope it isn't for 32. I could manage, but I'd like to go young and two first rounders for once would be a nice change in a heavy defensive draft.

All of the leverage. They have a huge amount of cap space still and they control his rights. If we sign him we owe them our 1st. Period.

Unless we work out a deal, which would obviously be the case. And Bill isn't going to do us any favors. So unless there was some under the table deal in the Cooks trade (which is technically illegal under the CBA), I don't know.

I doubt we give them #32. Probably a 2nd or 3rd.

I assume Butler is the reason we haven't signed any free agents since the first day of free agency. Making sure we have plenty of money to make him an offer that he likes.

Saints been in talks with Pats for almost 2 weeks now, i'd imagine they have some type of clarification on a possible framework of a deal needed for butler or else i doubt they'd waste much time entertaining butler almost recruiting him if they know they have no shot of making a trade happen. I think Saints are close on compensation and this is a how about you come see our organization and we want you to make this home type visit.

Would be a homerun to only give up a 2nd, but I have a feeling it'd be two picks if we give a 2nd.

I could see us giving up our 2nd rounder for him (and maybe getting back a late 5th). That is still a very steep price given the contract cost. I would prefer something like a conditional pick in 2018 (3rd?).
