Why 11 and not 32?

Just curious as to what the rule says.

This is how it will work out:

Saints and Butler will verbally agree to a contract.

Butler will then sign his tender with New England.

New England will then trade Butler to the Saints for whatever is agreed upon (and it won't be a first).

Don't think so.

So the rule says the highest first round pick available?

I'd give up a 2nd for him and call it a win for the Saints. That would make the Cooks trade Cooks for Butler, moving up from 42 to 32, and moving up from 118 to 103. Most people on here would've been happy if the trade was just Cooks and our 2nd for Butler and 32. Moving up from 118 to 103 is a bonus.

I would imagine they already have a deal in place and this is just a formality for Butler to visit with the staff and tour the facility.

We could be a Hooker away from best secondary in the league.

Have to keep asking why the Pats would pay so much for Gilmore rather than paying Butler. They obviously do not feel he is worth it, having him in their locker room for years now.

Its why they are 5 times champs. Sign a guy you like (Gilmore). Tender the guy you have (Butler). Butler is now an asset. You get a top corner to play for 4 mil or you use him as trade bait. You don't have this option if you don't sign Gilmore. Again, Pats play chess.

I'd do a 2nd and even another mid round pick. Maybe something next year? We are already +1 in net picks. Adding a second 1st for Cooks makes that 2nd Rder expenpendable for a player of this caliber.

Dude would be our best CB and sure up our defense that saw 3-4 guys off the street play there last year.

makes you wonder all the 3 safety packages we played if that 5th secondary guy now is PJ Williams.

Why take anything less than the 1st round they tendered him at?

Because he isn't playing on the RFA tender, and the Patriots don't seem interested in paying him what he wants. There's a good chance that they will #32 back, but that could easily be looked at as a part of the Cooks deal (Cooks + 4th for Butler + 3rd). I can't see another team giving their 1st straight up for Butler.

Another team in Malcolm Butler mix: #Texans.

Source said they're interested in sending 2nd-rd pick to NE if can get Butler signed long term

I think Bill would be happy to keep Butler out the AFC and that matters a bit.
