Brees franchise tag question

Anyone know the estimated tag amount if used on Brees next year?
I believe a contract extension will get done, but I am just curious now that it's somewhat free to use with the TA extension.

Drew hates 1 year deals...but you tender him with that tag which is 100% Guaranteed and he will sign it, play on it, then work on an extension.

Well the only leverage the team has is brees plays the next two years without a long term deal. He's getting a little old to bet on being completely injury free and then free agency

a 1 year 44 mill guaranteed deal is not leverage its jackpot, bingo, yahtzee.
Drew has already bet on himself to the tune of 160 million Saint dollars, Top NFL earning endorser last year behind only Peyton Manning, a best selling book back in 2010, multiple franchisee owner, etc.
Drew doesn't need the money and would only need to survive 1 year to see his final pay day w/guaranteed money attached which he would get via us or somewhere else whether he was a 100% or not.
Our leverage is don't offer that tag and match his best signable contract to stay if he hits FA

30 this year plus 44 with a tag. 74 mil in two years.
I honestly think that's where his heads at. He really might play out this contract and not extend

He is a UFA
We could finally get a compensatory pick

In an ideal world it would never come to this but if his current deal were to expire.
I know he would technically be a UFA. However if he hit the market and we wanted him back I think he would treat it like RFA w right of first refusal.
I don't think he would want to leave as long as we were willing to pay him what he thought was his appropriate value was and he would use the open market to verify his going rate and pretty much eliminate the negotiation process with a game of chicken.

Saints aren't going to just match stupid bids. Drew will have to want to stay here.

I know that's the story out of camp Brees.... I just think we are more than willing to pay him and he is squeezing hard

He's not getting tagged. I don't know why people on here think this is even a possibility

Because it actually is a possibility because we created enough room for it to be.
A very very very unlikely possibility, but enough to have a real threat of the tag out there.

Never said they would match any offer. Just like the Broncos chose not to come near Houston's offer for Osweiler. The Saints would have to weigh their options if the contract money started getting too high.
However just like Osweiler we would be allowed at the bargaining table until we choose to walk away from it.
Ideally this will be settled long before anything like this has to play out and we can avoid the drama altogether. The team hasn't really recovered from our last hard ball session with Drew and we are finally getting some momentum back.
