He'll never get to that franchise tag. The waiting game on this is to give the team more options, not less options. They can give him a 4 Year - $100MM extension at any time, with the first 2 years guaranteed, and leave him with 2 remaining years at $25MM per that he could play if he is still at a high level, or can be used to kick some of his salary down the road after he is gone. It's very simple. There is just no reason to do it till the last minute before camp.
