At what point will you give up on the Butler trade?

At some point this week, the trade will become very unlikely. I'm thinking that by Wednesday afternoon if Butler isn't a Saint then both teams have to go into their individual draft strategies and move forward.

After all, drafts aren't conducted pick by pick but as a whole. Teams may address a need at pick 11 knowing they can address another need at 32,for example. I also think the Pats are more desperate to unload Butler than we are to take him and by Tuesday their asking price will be dropping significantly. I haven't heard of any other suitors for him.

If Foster does indeed fall, I'd much rather him at #32.

At 32 with Davis or Cinningham on the board

At 42 with White or Foster on the board

I think 11 is Allen, Hooker, Fournette or Charlton. Dark horse is trade back if Tribusky is there.

Eh. My thinking is it's best for both the Pats and Saints to wait for the pick (be it 32 or 42) to be on the clock to see what the options are.

So it is in my opinion the trade is on the table until pick 32 and 42 is made by us.

I see what you're saying that it could be beneficial to wait until the night of the draft but how can you make your pick at number 11 without knowing if you're going to have pick number 32 or 42? And if the Saints draft cornerback at 11, there's no way the butler trade is going to happen.

What you do at 32 and 42 isn't going to affect what you do with a pick before that.

And if we go corner at 11 we may or may not still want Butler (everyone but Moore is coming off of major injuries). I can see it go either way (and another good reason to wait). Or maybe it gives us leverage to negotiate the Pat's cost down.

thats what I am thinking. I would say there is no chance it will happen before the draft starts.

I think Sean & Mickey feel like the #32 pick is too valuable to move w/ the 5th year option

You'd rather spend 32 or 42 on an almost-guaranteed bust CB huh?

I haven't wanted him for a first either. Don't even really want him for a second either. I'd offer a third from this year and next year and stick to my guns although I've never been a huge fan of this trade from its inception.
