For what it's worth, I was hoping they would draft Cairos Santos.

Winning 5 games IS bad when you are in one of the worst divisions in the league, and your AFC schedule is against THE worst division in football.

Let me ask you a question...would you feel this way if Beckham, Landry, Collins all went to Alabama or Florida or Georgia? How many Bulldogs do the Falcons have? How many Gators do the Dolphins or Bucs have?

I think that hindsight is 20/20.

The south is a lot better than it was a year ago

Carolina needs no explanation

Bucs have doubled their wins

Atlanta is mediocre but still better record wise

The NFL as a whole is down

I would also like to see the Saints draft more SEC players, personally. If the Saints had the opportunity to draft Amari Cooper and passed, I would be pissed.

I'm glad you asked that question, though:

Atlanta has drafted 4 UGA Bulldogs and 4 LSU Tigers since 2000.
Tampa has drafted 2 Florida Gators (I'll play your game and not count FSU, Miami and FIU here) and 2 LSU Tigers since 2000.
Miami has drafted 5 Florida gators and 3 LSU Tigers since 2000.

So... these three teams have all done at least equal or better than the Saints at drafting the local SEC team and LSU players in the last 15 years. None of them light the world on fire at it, though. But you still don't get to win this point. Sorry. It gets worse for your side when you add in other local college teams not in the SEC relative to Atlanta, Tampa, and Miami.

Glad we never sniff at drafting guys in our own backyard, but reach on bums like Vacarro, Ingram, Sunseri, and the 50 others I could name.

Vaccaro wasn't a reach

Ingram was a huge bright spot

Sunseri was a 5th round pick

Your post is pathetic. Bama butthurt

Tell me that having LSU players on the roster makes no impact at all, and I will tip my hat to you, sir. You know that's not true.

What kind of impact are we talking about?

Winning brings interest, and the Saints still have that big waiting list.

We are also routinely near the top in local viewership

Yeah cause having a HOF QB isn't good for a few wins regardless of talent. Outside of Brees, our roster is bottom 5 in the league.

Ingram is one of the better backs in the league. He's hardly a bum you fricking douche troll.

Since 2000:

LSU: 2
Bama: 4
UGA: 5
Tennessee: 3
Mizzou: 1
Ole Miss: 1

FSU: 5

So I think it is pretty compatible actually. I'd love to see more Tigers drafted to the Saints, but I think some of the guys we've really wanted recently, like ODB, shot up the draft board.

Possibly, but we also played more rookie snaps than any other team in the NFL, and those players played well overall.

This team isn't as far off as some people think. You fix the G position and that HoF QB has us in the playoffs next year even with a probable shitty D

Can't argue that fixing a few spots could get us into contention for a playoff spot, but nothing short of a miracle is getting any semblance of this roster and cap situation to compete for championships.

cap is the least of your worries this offseason. The larger issue is that free agency has a bunch of average guards and wide receivers who are UFA from a quick glance. That means development and/or draft will need to be spot on this year.

The Saints seem OBSESSED with "project players" and players with injury histories. ALL players need development, but I just don't understand the Stanley Jean-Baptiste picks, the Martez Wilsons of the world (25 career tackles for a 3rd rounder), Andy Alleman, etc...

Like Barkievious Mingo and Denielle Hunter.

And to the OP. You're complaining we have guys like Drew Brees, Marquise Colston, Cam Jordan and K. Lewis on the team because you'd rather us have Jamarcus Russell, Tyson Jackson, James Wright and Mo. Claiborne? You're dumber than a box of used condoms. GTFO! Get the best players, regardless of school. Who cares if they are from aTm, Florida, McNeese, Michigan State, Cal or even Notre Dumbass Dame.

I don't get it. Some of you seriously think having LSU players on the team has NO effect on generating MORE local interest for the team? This is like, the most basic marketing principle of all time.

I didn't say the team would have no local interest without them. Does the concept of "more" register at all?

Sometimes I think there's something fundamentally wrong with how some Saints fans think. It's disappointing to see that thought confirmed as often as it is.

Devin McCourty has never asked Bill Belichick about his apparent infatuation with Rutgers players. But McCourty, a former Rutgers star who has been a mainstay in Belichick's secondary with the Patriots for four seasons, has his theories.

"I think guys that come here (from Rutgers) have been well-prepared," McCourty said in a phone interview on Wednesday. "They're ready to learn. I think, as a coach, you love that when you have young guys that are coming in and they're ready to learn and take advantage of the opportunity."

McCourty fits that description. The 2010 first-round pick made the Pro Bowl as a rookie and has started every game of his career.

Belichick's connection with Rutgers runs deeper than his roster. His son Steve, who is now a coaching assistant with the Patriots, played lacrosse and football at Rutgers. Belichick also has a well-documented friendship with former Scarlet Knights and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano.

The latest group of Scarlet Knights to migrate to Foxboro already have done their part to reinforce Belichick's affinity for Rutgers' products.

Belichick selected cornerback Logan Ryan and safety Duron Harmon within eight picks of one another in the third round of last April's draft. Ryan has quickly developed into an impact player, starting three games and recording two interceptions, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Harmon has made a similar ascension, starting the past two games and finishing with 11 tackles in the team's win over the Denver Broncos last Sunday.

The only reason you care about what college a kid came from is his coaches, scheme, and possible issues moving away from family.

If you think you should be drafting players for purely marketing reasons, your opinion is invalid.
