I've been restraining myself till the season is done. Relishing in the wonderful discussion of uniforms and what some talking head said lately.

See that would be fine if we were only talking about the second half of one game but you're too stubborn to acknowledge what this conversation is really about

We'll never agree on this. I hope payton comes out and calls a perfect game and drew brees throws 6 TDs. We all want the saints to win.

neither was much of a problem when you look at the entirety of the game.

Draft or trade for future QB? (Posted on 1/4/14 at 8:24 pm)21
Do you guys think it's better to draft out future quarterback (next years draft most likely) or trade for someone like Josh Freeman and see if he can be our new quarterback.

All of our road woes this year were absent in the first half EXCEPT for Brees' performance. He was spot on in the 2nd half. I'm not saying everything is fixed, but there's plenty of reason for optimism.

So close but you just can't take that next step. Why did no one give us a chance? Why is it impressive we won this type of game? I would love to clue you in, but sometimes you just have to let them take those first steps by themselves. Lunchtime

I couldn't agree more, optimism isn't certainty though.

Will payton stay committed for 4 quarters to the ground game? Will drew put 4 great quarters together on the road in Seattle?

I hope so, and I'm excited to find out. I'm not ringing the victory bell either.

A truth a lot of people are forgetting. We need drew to play lights out to beat this team. Not Carolina or San Fran. To beat Seattle, we need a drew brees like performance from drew brees

Several of those are ridiculous, but to act like Brees played some amazing game and won the game for the Saints Saturday night is as myopic as one can get.

Brees played straight awful in the first half. The guy held the ball too long, panicked in the pocket, short-armed numerous throws, and that's not even mentioning two horrible picks that are entirely on him (whether people want to accept that or not).

In the end, Brees had everything going for him and he nearly blew that game along with Payton. He played better in the second half, but make no mistake he's one half of the Saints road issues with Payton's play calling the other half. I hope this game gets him over it.

If they can get past Seattle, they have every reason to be confident against either San Fran or Carolina.

mea culpa. but still true. he hasn't been hitting the outside and has made some dumb fair-catch v. let it go decisions. still love him though.

It's not easy to be fast in the freezing cold. The Eagles were obviously game-planning for the Saints passing game. Jimmy Graham was harassed all game long.

All in all, Drew Brees completed 2/3 of his passes and had a very solid second half. I don't understand how he throws that pass directly to Demeco Ryans. It was directly to him as if he thought Ryans was wearing white and black.

This is where you are showing your myopic view of Brees. Brees helped the Saints lose those games, and often with his poor play at the end and inability to help the team get a first down along with Payton's playcalling. The defense shouldn't be put in that position 2-3 times at the end of each loss.

Brees in the Saints 5 road losses averaged:

61.8% completions, 288 yards, 1.8 pass TD, 1.8 turnovers per game.

On top of that, his turnovers led to 8.2 points per game for the other team including 14 against the Rams, 10 against the Jets, and 7 against the Panthers.

In the end, Brees is a great quarterback, but acting like he plays great on the road is just silly.

On top of that,

If you watch the games, you'll see. He almost always ensures that he looks at Jimmy first on every play and then goes through his progressions. Teams know this and have either given the receivers the space so they react or jammed them at the line.

Brees also killed numerous drives in these past few road losses by not throwing the ball away when clearly nothing was there, which is something he is usually good at doing. For whatever reason, he's failed at that this season on the road.

I am glad he played better in the second half, and I sure as heck hope it carries over to the game against Seattle. Fact remains, he's continued to struggle on the road and put his team in horrible positions with bone head mistakes.

"No, you react like a 6th grade little drama school bitch."
This pretty much summarizes a lot of the posts I saw when I peeked into the Saints Talk about mid second qtr.
It was disgusting.
As I predicted with a post at that time, we won and they are all riding shotgun back on the wagon now!
I hate fair weather fans!

He does hold the ball too long. But there are more reasons not his fault than are.
Teams are catching up to CSP's play calling and our WR's are slowing down some.
The area where I have seen a decline in his play is on his longer passes.

Fox Mulder wanted Payton gone to Dallas a couple weeks ago so there's really no bar he can get under at this point.

Brees will always win the game because we can't win without him, but yeah. He didn't carry the team. Part of that is having such a large percentage of your cap in one player, part of it is drew is still really freaking good

Philadelphia did some things I thought were interesting. At one point the corners were showing press and right as drew made the calls and was about to snap, the corner would back off and the LB would shoot down and show blitz. This happened a lot and they mixed it up. A couple of times drew looked confused.

Drew brings his A game, and Ingram gets the carries, Lewis plays and we're leaving Seattle with a win. The first part was usually a good bet, now it's a 50/50 proposition at best, who knows if payton sticks to the run or reinserts PT (is he playing?) a lot of variables but if they play like they did in the second half offensively, they're unbeatable.
