I'm not even sure the offense was better in 2009. People just weren't ready for it. The o-line was better, but could you say our weapons were better? We had no Sproles or Graham.

Tough to say here.

2013 is missing the moxy 2009 had on offense.

It didn't matter what your D was like, in 2009, you knew we were gonna score ours.

Now in 2013, vs a good defense, we have to rely on our good defense to win the game for us

D has pretty much won us all our close games this year.

If our O becomes as lethal as our potential, I definitely think at the end of the day, 2013 will be better.

2011 Saints would probably beat both.

2011 is probably one of my favorite because of how potent they were, but I don't think they beat 09 or 13. The offenses for 09 and 13 would put up a gazillion points on that 11 defense, and the 09 and 13 defenses would probably cause a little havoc against the 11 offense, sort of like SF did.

2009 easy. With this o-line we'll be lucky to make it pass the divisional round, granted we even get a bye.

2009 Brees was only sacked 20 times

already this year in 10 games, 6 games left he's been sacked 22 times.

this has got to be the worse O-line this teams has seen in a while

What about the 2006 Saints? That was a pretty good team too... just saying...

At this point you gotta say 2009. They rolled through the regular season and the offense was amazing. Defense wasn't statistically great, but made key stops and got the turnovers.

2013 D is better. The great thing about 2013 is that they can still improve and reach (or exceed) the level of the 2009 team.

2011 was a great squad also, especially the second half of the season. That team had trouble on the road, I think all four losses were on the road (3 in the regular season, plus the playoff loss to the 49ers).

O Line was badass in 2009. Goodwin was really awesome for us at Center, hurts seeing him play well at SF. Nicks and (healthy) Evans were probably the two best Guards I've ever seen on any team. That tandem created a clean pocket every time Brees passed the ball. I feel our tackles are as good or better this year. Charles Brown is about equal with an inexperienced Bushrod in 2009, and Strief is playing excellent, better than Stinchcomb even.

A good offense always starts with a good Oline.

This year's Defense is the best we've had in 10 years maybe longer.

If this team's offense was more consistent I'd say 2013 hands down due to the improved defense. But, it isn't... so 2009.

2009 I felt like we were the best team in the league, nobody scared me. It had that special feeling way back in preseason. The offense was potent and the defense was very opportunistic and made key stops when we needed them to. I knew we were going to the superbowl.

2011 is the coulda woulda shoulda season. Had we beat frisco I say we woulda rolled the giants at home and then smoked the pats in the superbowl.

2013 also has that special feeling and I've thought that since preseason, even considering the memories of last year. I agree the defense is much improved, I just don't feel this offense is as complete as 2009. This years team is good but not scary good like '09. We're top 5, and anything can happen any given Sunday, but we're not unbeatable. Now, i will say that I feel like we are superbowl bound and may win it all, but the jury is still out until the season plays out.

Superbowls won: '09
Us v's the league: '09
Us v's us: '09, '11, '13.

Way too hard to call that right now, but I believe the 13 team is on par with 09 and 11.

09 team: Very good, efficient offense + opportunistic defense

11 team: Arguably the best offense ever, but a mediocre to sometimes bad defense.

13 team: Good offense, sometimes spectacular and on par with 09 and 11 + dominant defense.

The 2009 squad started hot, got cold losing the last 3 regular season games, then finished strong.

The 2011 team caught their stride in the 2nd half of the season, but the defense came up small in the playoffs mixed in with an insane amount of turnovers. I don't have to talk about the divisional playoff game, we all know what happened. We also need to remember that they really turned up the offense in the 2nd half of the season, finishing with 3 straight 40+ point games, which gives inflated numbers.

The 2013 team has shown flashes of being an absolutely great offense, but this is by far the best defense the Saints have had in a very long time. The offense when clicking on all cylinders is as good as any, and the Dallas game was arguably the best performance out of any Saints team as a whole. I don't understand people saying that 09 was the most balanced, when this team has the 2nd ranked offense, and a top 5 defense. If you are meaning offensively, I agree, but we are seeing an improvement in the rushing attack and O-line. I also think this has been a really tough schedule compared to 09 and 11

Scoring differences:

2009:

31.8 PPG
21.8 PA

Outscored opponents by an average of 10.5 PPG

2011:
34.18 PPG
21.18 PA

Outscored opponents by an average of 13 PPG

2013:
28.8 PPG
18.3 PA

Outscoring opponents by an average of 10.5 PPG

__________________________________________________________

These teams are all extremely close in comparison, with the 2011 being the most dominant from a points scored/points allowed perspective.

It is very possible that the offense of the 2013 catches their stride down the stretch similar to the 2011 team. Regardless, it is really hard to judge them all until this season is finished, but they are all very close in comparison from what we have to look at so far.

I think it was a combination of getting cold and also locking up the number one spot early.
