-Lowe says 3 starters are for sure: Jrue, AD, and Asik. Gentry says Jrue and AD are.

-Reke rehabbing and won't be ready to start the season. Gentry seems to imply that he will find minutes for him when he's ready.

-Lowe mentions that AD's motor was shite earlier in the season (that's why he's the best in the biz). Gentry agrees, but says something stupid about the surrounding cast not being good. That shouldn't matter, but whatever.

-Defensive identify: "Screen and roll" (pick and roll?) defense was poor, gave up too many drives to the basket.

-AD at center: won't play AD at the 5 vs Howard type, but will vs smaller 5s. Lowe implies that AD is best at 5, and Gentry doesn't seem to disagree.

Now talking about Suns. Will update as I listen.

ETA: Gentry doesn't think that we'll see many teams have Ginobli/Parker/Duncan situations with players being together for lengthy periods of time. Hopefully that's not the case with AD/Jrue.

ETA2:

Buddy can possibly start day 1. Summer league is about pointing out nuances in his game. Gentry likes Diallo. No surprise, but he's talking as if it's a given that he's on the team.

Gentry says he's very involved in FA.

Can't talk about Jones unless Lowe pays the $100k fine.

Gentry watches Saints practices and is trying to learn from Payton. Wants same enthusiasm as Saints games.

Says Loomis is "very involved", but lets Pels people do their thing. Whatever that means.

Seemed to imply that backcourt was responsible for bad D recently. Thinks Asik can play in fast paced offense (Lowe mentioned Houston and Gentry agreed). Implies that they would still have to adjust their plans around Asik's abilities.

Gentry doesn't regret job (why would he) despite rough first season. Lowe is on board with injury issues causing problems.

Lowe and Nate Duncan were notafraid to call out AD for his lack of effort early into last season. It almost looked as if AD was believing all the hype and felt a bit entitled.

Gentry compared AD to The Admiral earlier today during the SL game.

It's starting to look like (as we mostly hoped) that Asik and Ajinca will be getting ~30 MPG at C. I'm OK with that. Now we hope that Hill, Jones, and DC can handle 28MPG at the 4.

Looks like we're gonna have to platoon Hield/qpon/Moore at the 2 for a while.

No tyreke sucks. He fills so many spots for you. He can play 1-3. Lameness

Good for Lowe calling out AD. Man I hope that guy stays healthy this year because I do believe the Pels have a much more balanced roster. They should be competing for a 6-8th seed.

I am so glad they finally acknowledged this, so I don't have to be so vague. They have known this for a while, and they have no plans of Tyreke being a part of this team this year.

Now, the fans can move on too. Root for him to heal and maybe he can bring you back a small asset in February, but that's the best case scenario. I love that we can move on now

Respectfully disagree with all of the above. We had a healthy Ryno in flamethrower mode leading up the deadline, and we didn't move him.

We can move on next April.

I'm not sure they'll be competing for a 6 seed. They'll be in the battle for 7-10 at best. But that's for another thread.

I cannot believe his knee is that bad off. I dislike his hero ball, low IQ play as much as the next on this board but that's a lot of wasted cap space to overcome.

I don't think we will get something of real value. I'm saying he could be a guy who helps make salaries work, not a guy who can get us a pick. He will never again have positive value as a player IMO (Ryno had some), but his contract could help a team get to the floor, or get rid of a player with multiple years. Also, if Tyreke can't play next year, his contract could become kind of valuable, because insurance will pay 90% of it.

So, let's say you are the Sixers and want to get to the salary floor. You can trade for Tyreke and get there, so you don't have to pay a penalty, but you really won't have to pay Tyreke either, so that's a huge win for you. That's like 9 million in savings. A team might give up a couple of 2nd rounders or a Jeremi Grant for 9 million dollars

if that's the case (best case is rent another teams cap space) then do you think the will he/won't he play dynamic this year could be a distraction? his handlers aren't going to be thrilled about that I assume

like after Xmas he starts saying he's ready and the team clearly doesn't want to play him?

I didn't consider the insurance angle. But if I remember that's if he can't play a single minute correct?

That is the risk you take not stretching him (which they were never gonna do) or dumping him now. He is not going to be a positive to this team on the court unless, by the time he is ready to go, 2-3 guys are already hurt and they actually need him. If he is able to play in say December, and this team is healthy and guys are getting used to their roles, it's gonna be a huge cluster F.

But I think they are going to cross that road when they get there, if they can't move him before then. But who knows, maybe a Westbrook or Blake trade shakes everything up. Maybe OKC blows it up and makes the Pels a part of a 3 way deal where they send us Josh Huestis to unload Singler's contract and take back Reke. Or, in a bigger deal, take Reke, Ajinca, and DC to dump Kanter's long term money.

Just throwing stuff out there, but the point is, there is a long way to go before Reke gets healthy and is ready to play. And honestly, that might not even happen at all in 16-17. It could be that bad.

It looks like he just has to miss the first half of the season. I don't know if there's any proration if he comes back later.

quote:

If an insured player is disabled, there is a 41 game waiting period, after which the insurance company pays 80% of the guaranteed portion of the player's remaining base salary, up to $175,000 per regular season game. The waiting period can span seasons, and the player even can attempt to come back -- if he does and finds that he is unable to play, the 41-game count resumes (as long as he stopped playing due to the same injury).

If the player is traded, his new team receives the benefit -- for example, even though Cuttino Mobley's heart condition was discovered prior to his trade to the Knicks, the Knicks received the insurance payout.

LINK

Not that I doubted him, but MM is right, if Tyreke is out for the season, possibly as little as just half the season, we have a $9 million check we can trade to a team. That seems like it would be pretty valuable.

AD's effort is also why he lost that money.
