Withey is a legit seven footer who's only going to be asked to play defense and rebound. Cole Aldrich is 6-9 and was supposed to have a much more versatile offensive game, he was never the defender Withey was

And defense is what we are worried about here, which is all they will really want from him in limited minutes. Our points will come from elsewhere. Whithey could end up be outstanding defensively.

Hedging your bet there. First it was Withey was not an upgrade; now, it's almost certain.

Hey anything is possible. It is very highly unlikely that Withey has as good a season as Lopez, but I can envision an alternate reality where he does. However I wouldn't bet your life on it.

The style of play has changed...especially for the center position.

Withey is a variation on Lopez. He will be cheaper, younger, and better, I think, in the long run.

I think he will be a better rebounder than Lopez (though the BSS report on the rebounding #s w/ Lopez v w/o were very interesting) but I don't know if he will be a better shot blocker. In order for Withey to be better than Lopez, he needs to be top 10 in the league in BLK %.

My gripe is that you made a definitive statement with absolutely no idea of how this will shake out.

No one ever does that here.

My only point was that people celebrating like this is a huge move for the legit 5 that everyone was clamoring for were overreacting. Withey is a nice prospect. He should help, but let's be real: he's a 2nd round rookie center. If he doesnt play for Kansas and no one knows who he is, no one gives a shite.

People were shitting on Noel defending the Holiday trade because draft picks are dicey- well this is the same situation except the Pels traded the proven commodity for the unknown asset.

(BTW I agree with both of those moves)

He is pretty damn athletic around the goal.

Nice outside jumper too. Ooooh, daddy likes a lot!!!

I still love this addition. Added a C after losing Lopez, and although he is young, he ceiling is extremely high. He can come in and give us 10-15 minutes a game, and be solid.

And saved $4 mill (+) to boot.

I like Withey, but the likelihood of his rookie season being as good as Lopez last year is pretty fricking low.

Yeah, again, no one expects that considering Lopez played 25 mpg and Withey wont come close to that. The sheer numbers will never be close.

But for what this current team needs, Withey is a better answer than Lopez next year. Defensively and financially.

Whatever, but we still need another guy who can play center, imo.

ETA: I like the move and the acquisition of Withey. I wonder how many times I'm going to almost type "Whitey"?

Seriously?

I think that's what you wanted in your mind in order to be argumentative.

No one said he was a "legit 5" or that it was even a huge move. Withey was an unexpected throw in and plays a position we now have a need at. I don't think there is anything more to it then that.

lol

They actually traded the proven commodity for Tyreke Evans and happened to get Withey in the deal.

They got one of the best young PGs in the league for Noel.

But yeah

I guess I imagined the first 2 pages of this thread.

No shite.

You think Withey will be better than Lopez for 2013/2014. I disagree.

I am glad they got Tyreke and I would do the sign/trade every time. Doesn't mean they didn't give up a useful player for an unknown commodity in the deal for Evans.

What? They had to give up Lopez to make the deal for Evans work. He wasn't thrown in to get an unknown commodity. The unknown commodity was the piece thrown in to add value to the trade.

I think you're missing the point of everyone's enthusiasm

We knew we'd have to dump Lopez, and while Whithey may not be better, the trade off of salaries and fact that JW can help us in the paint is a pretty big positive when most people thought we'd get nothing back.
