Cool. Just realize that, although I'm a senior (very) member, I'm shitfaced and in the bag about half the time I post.

Seeing as how I actually am halfway in the bag at this point, I have to ask . . . did I miss (or am I imagining) a reference to a realtalk alter earlier?

Second, macattack definitely knows who I am. I may have to kill him if I don't hire him.

Considering this part of the offseason,i'd say the board is doing fine.

I think it'll be B fwiw

Though it all depends on matchups(dwight, mem,IND etc) I like our chances against most other teams otherwise.

I have a feeling gordon is gone at the trade deadline. It feels like a dell move IMO

Also rivers is the GOAT deal with it

You're probably expecting a little too much if you think this team is getting past the first round this season.

I think that Monty will change lineups based upon the opponent. With a dominant opposing center I think they would rotate Smiht and Steimsma. Against a team with a weaker center they would probably go small with Davis and Ryno.

My topic:

Finishing well within the last 5 min. of games. This was an issue last year and it needs to be fixed.

Offensively that shouldn't be an issue if they go with Davis, Ryno, Tyreke, Gordon, and Holiday.

Yeah. That's why he had such a stellar NBA career. Dude gave effort but he was pretty weak. Peja, Smiht, R. Anderson, C. Andersen, et al, all better overall players.

Vasquez
Injured/Ineffective in 2nd halves Gordon
Aminu
Anderson
Lopez

Holiday
Healthy Gordon *stiffledlaughter*
Evans
Anderson
Davis

Monty's options should be plentiful. Short of a serious injury to Davis/Anderson/Holiday, Monty really doesn't have any excuses this season, but he shouldn't need any either.

Lets trade EG for Bellinelli. We need a proven scorer who can create his own shot and stay on the court.

This team doesn't have a center, and will not be able to make much of a playoff run without one

Meh. This team is being built around a perimeter attack with Davis as the anchor in the paint. He can't bang with the truly big bodies, but only 5 teams in the league fit that description.

Instead of focusing on what Davis can't do, let's flip that question around- how do teams guard Davis? How many big men will be able to handle his quickness, his movement, and his ability on the PnR to dive or flare for a jumper? How about the Anderson/Davis pair? How in the world do Randolph/Gasol deal with those two?

quote:

I think at some point in time a move has to be made with one of those guys to shore up center

One thing about the moves they've made, all of the contracts (give or take Gordon) are easily moveable. I do believe they will give the roster an honest shot this season and they may very well discover that it is fundamentally flawed. If that's the case, Evans is young and on a decreasing deal. Anderson is young and on a very fair deal. Those are two attractive assets to many teams in the league.

quote:

A) going small ball with Davis at the 5 and just run and gun and take our lumps on defense against bigger lineups, or B) sticking traditional with Stietsma/Smith at center and having Anderson off the bench. I'm all for A but I really doubt Monty's got the balls to try something like this, given his disdain for anything that will lead to less defense

I think Anderson still comes off the bench, but they spend more time playing small with Anderson/Davis together. Like I said, it will be a perimeter oriented attack.

They can play better defense and still play faster- they were the 2nd slowest team in the league. The Spurs and Thunder were top 10 in pace and DRating. The Nuggets had a better than league average DRating while playing the 2nd fastest pace in the league. This team's weakness last year was atrocious defense and that is while playing the second slowest pace in the league. They have better overall talent (maybe not better fitting talent) and better athletes than many of the teams in the league, they should use that to their advantage.

But you're right to doubt Monty being able to pull this off. His defensive reputation is a little overblown due to the team playing so slow and people only looking at PPG (the inverse is true for his offensive reputation). I doubt he goes to a Miami defensive scheme, aggressive PnR trapping, doubling, and rotating which would seem to fit the talent. The hope is that his schemes will work better with guards who can defend and aren't very young players. We'll see.

I would expect some losses to start the season. It will take time for the team to come together. I do think it can work, but don't be shocked by uneven play- beat Memphis, lose to Utah type stretches.
