re: Solmon Hill to Pels 4yr/50 potential 2 mill for good behavior on line

Let me preface my ensuing remarks by saying I wasn't as high on Hill as others but...
We have been wanting a 3&D wing for awhile now and then we finally get one there's nothing but complaint. I don't think he'll be an all-star but he's 25 on a contract that, in this market, won't be so bad in a few years. So why don't we let this one marinate awhile and see how he plays before making irrational judgments?
This also means we have more cap room to go out and get more pieces plus that S&T idea MM mentioned in the other thread could still be a possibility.

The production of Hill to date is apparently scaring everyone.
Well he's been playing behind PG13. His advanced stats are about on par with Bazemore, who is 2 inches shorter and will apparently command 6-8 million more per year.

You get bazemore/harkless production from him if you give minutes than its worth it considering those two will get 50% more than him.

Wow. Wow. Wow.
Marc Stein @ESPNSteinLine
Earlier reported deal for Solomon Hill in New Orleans: $48 million over four years, sources say, with incentives to hit to pass $50 million.

If that's the case then I love the signing.

Oh so you're mad that we got an athletic defensive wing?
For nearly 15% of the cap? Yes. I don't think he's a bad player, but he has in no way earned that type of contract even with his potential.

shite that makes it even better.
So yea we basically got a bazemore caliber player for 8 million a year less.

We live in a world in which matthew dellevadova is getting 10/year.
12/year is solid.

So another Aminu when he came to the Pelicans. Great.
Aminu came to the Pels when he was 21. He shot 36% from 3 this year at age 25, his first time breaking the 30% barrier. Ariza didn't start shooting the 3 "good enough" (33%) until he was 25. Hill is just 24 and already has a career average of 32% from 3. I'm not saying he's guaranteed to become a decent 3 point shooter next season, but we've seen a lot of D only wings follow this development arc to being 3 and D wings.

And Evan turner gets nearly 18

A wing that can't shoot 3's is worthless in the current NBA. He can help win games in the regular season, but if the Pels ever want to win a playoff series he needs to learn how to shoot.
He did shoot 71% from 3 in the playoff series against the Raptors so maybe there is hope. I worry about his inability to score though.

We have to overpay to get anyone of substance to come here.
And we need an athletic defensive wing. And this one has potential.
I've never seen him play, but just going by advanced metrics and what others with knowledge have said it's a good deal with a chance to be a steal.

Holiday
Hield
Hill
Davis
Asik
Not a bad starting five honestly - athletic and much better defensively

Solomon Hill: Perhaps no under-the-radar player other than Biyombo made himself more money in the playoffs. Hill emerged as a dependable, small-ball power forward on Indiana's reserve units. The Pacers tried to give him away at the deadline, disenchanted with his busted jump shot, and found no takers. Now, Hill might earn almost $10 million per season, perhaps more, though a few GMs remain unconvinced that he's an NBA player. He has an NBA-level feel -- a sense of rhythm, timing and vision that is hard to teach. Defenders sagged way off him to clog Indiana's already cloggy offense, but when they rushed back to close out on him, Hill sauntered by them with herky-jerky drives that often ended in slick interior passes: He has a nifty spin move and can unleash out-of-nowhere, mean-spirited dunks in traffic. Hone his jumper, and you should have a solid rotation wing player. Hill nailed 11 of his 19 3s in the playoffs and shot a very encouraging 44 percent for the season on corner 3s. Those looks weren't quite Andre Roberson-level open, but opponents are fine with Hill chucking. How many can he make if they take one step closer? His so-so jumper is less of a problem at power forward because Hill's team should have at least three other decent shooters on the floor. As a pseudo-big, Hill can hang around the baseline, set screens and thread smart passes when he catches the ball on the pick-and-roll.
Problem: It's unclear if Hill can guard real power forwards. Light-in-the-butt stretch guys and backups? He's got those down, and he can switch easily between them and almost any wing player. He toggled from Patrick Patterson to DeMar DeRozan in the first round, and guarded everyone from Draymond Green to Russell Westbrook in the regular season. He's solid against perimeter players, strong and generally in tune both on and off the ball. He gets a little handsy against speedsters who can zoom past him. He needs a loose whistle to survive those matchups.
Stick him against a real big with a post game, and he's roadkill. He might be able to drive-and-kick by those guys on the other end, but only if he becomes a reliable 3-point shooter -- someone plodders have to defend outside their comfort zones. If he can't get there, Hill will end up a wing-sized guy who can't really play the wing on offense but can only slide down a position against bench guys. If he pulls it off, he might be a borderline starter. Still, that innate feel is intriguing. He showed enough in the playoffs that some team should take a flier on him, even a pricey one.

Solomon Hill is better than Kent Bazemore, Crabbe, and Harkless
Literally a better player.

Obviously he needs to improve his shooting, but that's completely doable.

Here is a game to play:
Imagine Hill signed this same contract with a team you don't want to do well, let's say Dallas. How would you have reacted?
A) Jealous
B) No Reaction
C) Laughed at them
I know how optimism bias works, so I doubt most of you can be honest with yourself, but if you can, you know the truth

If Hill can shoot, than it gives a lot of spacing too.
I thought there were better options at SF, I think Hill is going to be afa/bazemore/harkless level which is fine. We need smart and defensive oriented players anyway

Delavadova proved he could play starter minutes in the playoffs. No offense, but Hill hasn't proven near half that.
