According to Woj, the NBA and NBAPA have made "significant progress" and are highly optimistic that a new deal could be completed within the next several weeks ahead of the 12/15 opt-out deadline. Supposedly, only a few minor parts of the CBA need to be ironed out.

If true, this is very interesting and surprising. I am wondering what clauses were put in that led both sides to come this type of agreement so soon. I was certain we were going to have a work stoppage.

I think both side agreed what KD did was a hoe move. Half the player came out and said it. So the issue was easier to resolve.

It sounds good but pegging Rookie Scale to the cap and making roster allowances for the DLeague aren't really big ticket items. Hopefully both sides are too busy counting the new TV money to bring up any substantial divisive issues.

I wonder if the idea of Super Teams was addressed. A few players, surprisingly, came out against it if my memory serves.

I'm rooting for OKC this year and I suppose Portland too. Westbrook and Lillard could make building your own thing cool again instead of this BFF club bullshite.

??????

Why? WAYYYYY too much money to be lost on both sides for their to be a work stoppage. Less than 5% chance that was ever going to be possibility.

Because owners are greedy and recent history has proven that the players have gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to profit sharing. Plus, with these escalating contracts I was certain owners would want to find ways to spend less and earn more.

Yeah, I wonder if there is some clause in there will that will help teams keep their players more so than in the past? I know both Westbrook and Lillard have spoken out about super teams. I'm curious to read this thing when it's released.

I just want to pump the brakes on anybody hoping they put an amnesty clause in there and then hoping we use that on Asik. Benson would not give the green light on that this year or next. Probably not year 4 either. So, don't bother rooting for that, thinking it will solve that problem.

I wasn't even thinking about the amnesty clause. I am thinking more in terms of profit sharing percentages, D-League (hopefully more controllable players and how they do that process). I also am curious about the draft if they are going to change the limit from one year to two.

There's never been any indication that a lockout was a possibility. NBA is making wayyyyyyy too much money to frick that up. Even the greedy owners know that.

Fair. I have just seen some on twitter praying for the amnesty for that reason, and I think it would help other teams more than it would help us.

I don't know that there really are any "major" issues with the CBA.

Super team stuff has always been and will always be in the league. You cant legislate player choice in FA.

I just hope the union didn't fold on age limit.

Very likely tweaks were done to revenue sharing if this is getting done this early. Owners must ahve given up some more cash.

The NBA needs either a franchise tag or the ability to substantially pay more for their own players

It is not surprising to me, because Silver has such a better pulse on how to accomplish things swiftly than Stern, Goodell, etc.

I doubt that....maybe a % point in the band.

Listened to latest Duncd On and one theory they had was that players just saw how much $$$ they get this summer. Hill $50M, Mozgov $64M, etc. Why mess that up?

Maybe the cap spike saved us from a lockout

Exactly, both sides have a lot more to lose from a lockout than gain. From the players perspective they may have a smaller piece of the pie than they did in 2010, but the pie has gotten so much bigger their piece has almost doubled in size. I'm not saying a lockout won't happen but they'd all have to be stupid to not save it for another day.

Not for the 3rd contract. Year's don't matter to superstars and an extra 3% in raises isn't significant, especially when you're talking large market vs. small market and there's shoe money involved.
