One game last season may have earned Gee this opportunity because it happened in front of Alvin Gentry.

Alonzo Gee got his first start as a Trail Blazer (and first start since the 2013-14 season) in order to defend Warriors guard Stephen Curry.

Apparently, there was plenty to like about his defensive work versus the MVP while his teammates stunk: LINK

This feels a lot like a Salmons/Stiemsma signing

It's really not, because both of those guys were seen as possible starters. They were seen as crummy possible starters, but starters. Or, at least, they were expected to play a lot of minutes.

No one here is arguing that Gee should play more than 10 minutes a game.

If we need him for more, we have a problem.

If he is a situational guy and in the game to play lockdown defense on someone then possibly he may get more than 10 minutes at times

He's the only true SF on the roster...we don't have many options.

Eric Pincus has updated the cap numbers for several Pel Players and it looks like Gee is on a minimum deal meaning we aren't hard capped.

That would be good news. As I said during my rant on previous page, offering more than the minimum, and being hard capped for Gee seemed kind of dumb.

Don't let go of your anger just yet I was basing that off of this tweet

Eric Pincus ?@EricPincus 11 hours ago

Put in verified $ for Ajinca, Cunningham, Asik, est. for AD (not Rose rule yet) New Orleans Pelicans @BBallInsiders LINK / …

I saw verified for several guys and assumed the whole page had been updated, especially since he didn't have Babbitt listed, but he tweeted this a little after:

I also put in an estimate for Alonzo Gee - could be min for 2 years, or slightly move via MLE (or BAE) @BBallInsiders LINK / …

And we also didn't use the MLE on him, so some of it is still technically in play.

I think he posted that that was simply a guess.

If we used any of the MLE to sign Gee we are hard capped at the apron.
