Thats what good coaches do
I would be willing to bet the good coaches across multiple sports are the ones who say next to nothing to the media.
Off the top of my head, Pop, Belichick, Phil Jackson, Saban (he'll trash the media but never call out his players), the list goes on.
99% of coaches hate media press conferences. What they say doesn't actually mean much of anything.

but you also need to acknowledge that Willie is part of the problem too.
I don't think anyone beyond VOR doesn't acknowledge this.

Umm ok. Pop, phil and saban have called out their team several times in press conferences. I mean Saban called out his team in a win. Bellicheck- I cant recall but im sure he has as well. Im sorry this is pretty inaccurate.

He had 9 rebounds tonight and 30 points on 18 shots. Deangelo Russell scored 30points. Austin reavers had 27. That is 57 points between guys that average 32 ppg combined. Our perimeter defense was awful tonight. Everything about our defense was awful. Doesn’t change the fact that we were dominating the third qtr and our coach took our best player out and our offense cratered. Just play him 3 more minutes in the third and the game is completely different.

By the way just in addition it seems like Willie may have called out Trey in his press conference. Which is kind of messed up because he should call out Zion too.
But kudos to Willie- after going on my rant- that he did that. But he should call out Zion as well.

Not really. Again anomalies.
And, for the record, Willie has called out this team this season. He did it after IST loss and there was another game during our December swoon.
But again, it doesn't actually matter. Getting hung up on what he says at press conferences is just bitching to bitch.
Zion says pointless shite when a mic's in front of his face too.

I actually don't like that because Trey seems like one of those dudes that has a fragile ego. So hopefully he backs up what I was saying earlier and doesn't pay attention to it.
But he is such an anchor to the second unit right now. If he doesn't come in and hit threes, he's a worse player than Dyson on the floor because he gives you absolutely nothing.

Zion should call out Willie for sitting him for over six minutes in both the first and third qtrs. He isn’t a great defender. He was flat out bad at times tonight. But he’s our best player and was dominating offensively tonight. You have to lean into that and see if he can win the game. The game was lost with him on the bench to close the third. Inexcusable.

Lol everyone is bitching on here just to bitch. We gave up 87 at half to Lakers- frankly I dont think anyone is wrong here in what they’re saying. Everyone frustration on everything from Willie press conferences to Zion breathing too heavy is warranted.
And if you think being called out in public doesn’t matter- I think we’ll just disagree on that.

This is a systematic problem beyond tonight if he is:

His ego is that fragile maybe hes not ready for that extension.

Let me rephrase, I don't think it matters in any positive way for a coach to call out a player to the media.
It can definitely matter negatively.

Here is my issue. Zion came out at the six minute mark of the third. To that point, we had outscored LA by 9 in the third. I hate that they take him out that early, especially when the team and him are both playing well with momentum, but that is his normal rotation. Whatever.
At the 2:21 mark of the third we were down 105-100. We were still winning the qtr by 8. We proceeded to lose the last 2:21 of the quarter by 8 getting outscored 10-2 and allowing DeAngelo Russell to hit two threes. Willie did not take a timeout in this stretch. Zion had been sitting for 4+ game minutes. He could have easily taken a timeout, killed the momentum, and gotten Z back in. This, to me, is where the game was lost.
The first half was awful. But the entire team, led by Zion was playing great in the third. We killed that by leaving Zion out for half the quarter and allowed the Lakers to erase everything we had gained in the last 2:21. When Z only plays 31 min that is a huge problem.

How much is Trey’s play worth if he only shoots 35.5% from the 3pt line. It is good, but if you look around the league that isn’t super elite for his volume. Also other players are more than a 3 pt specialist.

He’s pretty much unplayable shooting at that clip. He doesn’t bring much else at the moment.

I just know we have heard he is getting big money. Once the Pels spend that money it will lock their flexibility in making roster changes. The organization has to be careful to not get stuck on expensive underperforming contracts.

How to score an efficient 30 and still be a net negative in a basketball game...

Per tracking data, Lakers went 14/17 against Zion as a primary defender, 35 points.

Laker loss is not a big deal on the record but in the grand scheme Pels have to stop being the team that gets lessons and doesn’t learn them.
