I said if.

I'd like to think our FO knows by now if Jrue is resigning here. It's literally a franchise changing decision.

move about finding a cheap replacement for Jones.

but he's not a replacement in any way beyond the surface level of raw pts/reb.

to me, an Okafor move means

1) they do not expect Diallo to do anything for the next few years, which is not a problem or failure.

or

2) Davis won't play much 5, if any at all, going forward. which is a huge problem if I'm trying to build a team around him in 2017 and beyond

if it is #2, i would probably move him this summer

Are they really playing Jones one the perimeter on defense much? Most of my memories of him on defense are in the paint.

The only way I can comprehend and rationalize Asik, Ajinca and now Okafor/Lopez rumors is that AD has made it clear he does not want to play the 5.

I assume (and hope) all these moves are an effort to appease him.

He doesn't he said it publicly when he was selected as an All Star. He said something along the lines of "I prefer to play 4 but the team is better right now when I play 5.", but if this is about appeasing AD it seems about as doomed to fail as the last time they tried appeasing him and resigned Asik/Ajinca. Okafor as the bench scoring big that doesn't have to worry about defense can work, Okafor starting next to AD and playing 30 MPG seems like a bad idea.

If they can't come to grips that AD is the 5 on this team, then we have no chance. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever to spend money on a center. They should be backup quality veterans or rookie contract guys, period.
Money should be spent on AD, and the PG/SG/SF position. Since we are good at the SG position for a while, since I like having Hield/Moore/Galloway, and what we pay them, money should be spent on a PG that can create open shots for those 3, and a SF that can be the scorer on the team after AD. Too bad we spent an arse load of money on a SF this offseason that does the same thing the other SF we already have does for 4 times less.

I think it pretty clear he doesn't be wanna play C. He'd rather be 15' away from the basket shooting jumpers.

I know that woulda been egg on Demps' face if they let Asik walk after giving up a 1st for him the yr prior, but that along with AD not wanting to be the full time C is why Asik was signed.

What does AD playing the 5 even mean anymore?

He shouldn't be the full time 5. He doesn't have the frame. He should play there some, but we do need to find someone who can help ease his burden defensively.

Dell seems to think he needs someone down low offensively though with Lopez, Okafor, Vucevic being the guys he has suppsoedly targeted.

he's not guarding perimeter ball handlers, but if you're a 4, you will be guarding out to 3pt line every night.

Jones is a fairly mediocre defender, but his speed/quickness at least makes him more than a cone 15-20feet from the hoop.

it's not about offense for me.

it's a defensive anchor who can protect the paint/rim. if they have to invest in a guy like that, it's going to be a problem

I agree. But regardless of that, he will be the 5 when it matters most.
There is no 5 that will make this team substantially better. NONE. So don't waste money on one.
If we acquire a 5 to appease AD's pussy, then his only requirement should be to be able to guard guys like DJ, Gasol, Kanter, Adams, Drummond, Vucevic, Lopez, Valanciunas, Howard and maybe a handful of others that play big minutes, and they should only be playing around 15 minutes a game to guard these guys and let AD do it during crunch time.

I don't understand why we have to have the same starting 5 every game. Why hasn't DMo started yet? Why can't Jones start when we play a team that has a weak center, and an actual center (which should be what Asik is for) to guard the bigs that AD doesn't need to bang with all game?

The beat defensive 5 are being kept by their teams. Giving u a an offensive big is a lot easier than a defensive bug.

Teams would love to sell Kanter, vucevic, and Okafor but they'll have a harder time letting go of the Adams, gobert, and Drummonds of the league.

The reports of us trying to get Dwight Howard is something I think is more worthwhile than getting okafor. Lopez and vucevic aren't great defensively either but at least they're not totally inept at the moment. Can you coach the defense into Okafor? That is the million dollar question.

I think a deal will eventually get done, maybe not for Okafor. We have been tied to Howard, Okafor, Lopez, and Vucevic at least. It is apparent that AD has told Gentry/Demps that he is not comfortable playing the 5 the majority of the time. We will trade for a 5. I just hope we do not give up too much.

Just feel like he's mandated the FO that he is not a C. Only logical reason we are linked to all these centers.

Just trying to make sense of all this.

I've been really out of the loop

The gist is dell wants to move a 2018 1st for a center? And get rid of at least ajinca?

more than likely...

but why a center?
whats the fascination?

why not get an energetic rebounder to play PF next to davis at center? what about faried? or crowder? or one of the bulls forwards? or similar?

why wouldnt that work?

i hate it that i have ZERO confidence in this organization. when the saints went immediately to the playoffs in 06, and all those signings and draft picks started panning out, it was the best feeling as a fan. our team is smarter than everyone else...

this team is on the autism spectrum compared to the rest of the league
