gentry just makes the most sense

we are going to see an insanely good player in AD become even stronger with this fast paced type of offense

anyone with a brain should realize this hire should be geared towards keeping AD in nola long term

I'm extremely excited to see how this team plays next season

Finally someone gets to the heart of the matter. The number 1 job responsibility of our coach is not to win a title next year---that wasn't going to happen even if James Naismith rose from the dead to coach the team.

So, winning lots of games next year isn't the most important thing. The most important thing that this hire has to is enable Anthony Davis to continue to develop into the league's best player.

Davis made giant strides this year, developing a solid mid-range game that made an offensive beast. What's next? Adding more muscle and improving his post game? Developing a 3-point shot? "How would you develop AD?" had to be the most important question of the interview process, and I guarantee you that the answer was much more important to Demps/Mickey than whether random rantards would like the hire.

That doesn't mean that Gentry is going to be successful; it just means that most of you are talking about the wrong things.

I'm undecided on the hire, but seeing the ESPN bottom line makes me cringe each time I see the news. I'm not sure that's a good thing

It's not a sexy hire. I think all of us expected a sexy hire because of the AD factor. I am somewhat happy that Dell and crew resisted the urge to go with the big name because it was expected. Maybe we got the guy that is right for us, whether he's the big name or not

The rhetoric is that Shaw is going to take Gentry's spot but the Dubs have a defensive lead assistant. Makes no sense.

Why would they be worrying about filling a coaching staff spot for next season right before they play in the Finals? I don't believe that for one second.
Shaw was either there to interview with Gentry or he was there just to be there

I wanted JVG, but this isn't as bad as it could have been. I do think this hire was partly because TT and JVG would have wanted some semblance of control.

I will say this, if this team doesn't take another step forward, Dell and Gentry need to be shown the door. I will hope for the best.

Primarily responsible for the Warriors offense — top-rated for most of the season — Gentry believes the Pelicans have underutilized Davis’ offensive skills. Not only did he express this during his initial interview with Loomis and Demps, but Gentry also came into that session equipped with charts and graphs to illustrate his point.

this is the NBA, not the NFL or college football. if Gentry sucks next year, we can just fire him next year

we're not completely invested in gentry

we would be with TT and JVG to a lesser extent

I was one of the first on the TT bandwagon for Pels, even before it became a legit rumor during the season, but I love the Gentry hire. I think there is more of a chance of Gentry making this team great offensively, and hiring people to fix the defense, than TT or JVG fixing the defense, and hiring the right people to coach the offense.

This thread is hilarious. So many people with no clue.

Sorry guys went out tonight so I just got around to reading this info. Is he gonna finish out coaching the Warriors in the nba finals or is he sitting around with Dell, Dumars & Loomis ready to crush the offseason????

Good. Get some championship experience before coming over here. That is a big selling point for me. It seems like Monty shite his pants in a big game because he had no idea what it took to win in a "must win" game. Van Gundy might remember from his Knicks days but it's fresh in Gentry's mind. Thibs & Iowa st coach have no "spotlight" "champ game" experience. I was rooting for ATL coach but I see why Pels hired Gentry.

Well, underwhelming hire for sure. Hope he proves me wrong, but I would have rathered keep Monty if mediocrity is the expectation.

MCW does not suck. You are way off on that one. The holiday trade has got us nothing. He's made of glass.

I'd rather have MCW or Noel and Elfrid Payton and the players could grow together instead of a score first PG with nagging injuries.

Do you even watch the NBA dude? MCW can't shoot for shite. Like, his career shooting percentage is .003 higher than Austin fricking Rivers. That is horrible.

Elfrid Payton? Are you fricking kidding me? Christ. Most centers are better than him from the line and he is probably the 2nd worst shooter out of all starting guards in the league. The worst being MCW.

Also Jrue is a score first PG? Most of this boards main complaint about his game is that he doesn't try to score enough.
