Multiple sources have told me the NBA want to finally announce expansion to Las Vegas and Seattle during the Clippers’ two preseason games at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, on Sept. 30 and Oct. 3.

The Lakers then play two preseason games in Vegas on Oct 5 and 6.

This guy is a long time sports reporter in the Vegas area. So if expansion was recently approved it would make sense for locals to hear about it. It also makes sense to try and get this done sooner than later because expansion fees are currently not considered BRI to be split with the players. That's probably not something the league wants to be haggling over in CBA negotiations 2 years from now.

If expansion happens it would be pretty meaningful to the Pels. They are expecting to get $2.5 Billion per team in expansion fees. Adding 2 teams means a one time windfall of $166 million for each existing team. That will cover some tax bills.

So we get bumped to the East when the East is finally not insanely less talented than the West. Cool

it would also mean a two team expansion draft. I’d imagine teams would only be able to protect 8 players

who’s your 8?

McCollum
Ingram
Zion
Jones
Murphy
Jose
Daniels
Nance (?)

in addition to the franchise fee wit would be a one-time opportunity to dump contracts and teams with multiple upcoming 1sts will benefit

I don't think we get moved. I believe it would be the Wolves.

I guess they would add another division and they would realign. Four 4 team divisions.

NW- Portland, Seattle, GS, Kings

Pacific- Lakers, Clips, Suns, Las Vegas

Southwest- Nuggets, Jazz, Thunder, Spurs

Midsouth- Pelicans, Grizzlies, Mavs, Rockets

this
Pels plus Texas teams is the only sensible division if they will all be 4 teams. Memphis or Min could easily go East if both new teams are in the west.

32 teams, 16 each, 4 each
Pels would benefit with two expansion teams in their conference

I don't care what your politics are, but this is a stupid arse name for an arena. They just keep getting worse and worse... Doesn't make Smoothie King center sounds so bad after all though

But yeah all of a sudden for the past year the Wolves have been the favorites to move East when in the past it’s always been us or Grizz.

I think it has something to do with the new ownership group personally.

MIN has the worst/longest travel miles every year due to geography and MEM is right up there as well. That has the most to do with it

Us with the Texas teams is the only division that makes sense. Every divisional foe is an 8 hour drive or less.

I have a feeling it would be Memphis unfortunately... We are so close to the Texas teams and Memphis closer to the Midwest teams. But I'd love to join the East.

Also could see a scenario where they completely get rid of
divisions.

ETA: Minnesota, forgot about them, that's the team

The Spurs and Rockets are shite teams for the next few years. It would be us and the Mavs fighting for division. Not a terrible place to be.

Tom bought the team for $338 million and Gayle's about to get a half that back in expansion fees and the franchise is worth $1.5 billion. It's only been 10 years!

Keep in mind that expansion drafts essentially penalize very deep teams. We will only be able to protect so many players from an expansion draft, likely 12-13 at most.

So while we get a weaker schedule getting to compete more against expansion franchises we will possibly lose some depth.

Yep, just when we're finally a deep team. That being said, expansion will be probably 3 ish years out, so our roster right now doesn't really matter in terms of a top 8.

Just for fun though, I see as of right now 9 absolute keepers. I think our roster this minute may work out kinda perfectly for an 8 man protection:

Zion
CJ
BI
Trey
Herb
Jonas
Alvarado
Nance
Dyson(probably wouldn't have to protect newly drafted players, so the above 8 probably works)

Then guys you don't protect that I wouldn't lose sleep over losing any of them:

Jaxson
Kira
Naji
Graham
Temple
Willy

Amazon paid to name it that, don't worry - this is very much capitalism at work.

Pretty sure you won't have to protect newly drafted players, so I think Jonas would take DD's spot.

That’s disastrous for a team like us.
