On the Lowe Post Podcast around the 1hr 1m mark - Kevin Arnovitz said he had a "bad feeling" about Jrue Holiday signing with the Pelicans. He added he didn't think it was out of the question but that Pelicans would have a "tough time".

So ya. Pretty cryptic about whether Arnovitz had inside information or whether this was just speculation.

In other interesting news, it was reported that Pacers were looking to sign Jrue Holiday before Paul George stated his intentions not to re-sign.

The good news with the Pacers losing PG may be that they let Teague walk since they'll likely be hitting the reset button. Gives us another potential option in the event Jrue walks.

Ya it KA also stated he got the impression that Jrue wants to leave. I'd be fine with Mills or Teague, whichever is cheaper.

Honestly I've been thinking he's gone for awhile now.

He really never connected with the city and I never thought he really wanted to stay here.

I'm not sure how to read that. Last year all the top national writers knew Ryno didn't want to stay before the trade deadline. At the same time if I were an agent trying to squeeze more money out of the Pels that's exactly the kind of thing I'd leak. Remember when an agent got Batum to say he wasn't happy in Portland to get Minny to throw money at him?

Honestly he's too much of a prissy bitch to like this city. Bye. What a disappointment. I remember watching a young Holiday in Philly thinking this dude is a baller. Now his wife walks around with his balls in her purse and he's lost all that edge and fire on the court.

ETA: Normally when it looks, feels, and seems like a guy is gone, he is. Just being realistic. On the plus side, this looks terrible on Demps. 3 1st rd picks, RoLo, Vasquez, and CP3 later and all Demps has is the gaunt zombie version of Omer Asik to show for it. Impressive.

To be truthful, Ryno had a lot of demons here in NOLA with the passing of his gf. If anybody deserved a reset/get-outta-town card, it was that dude. Glad he got a great chance to ball out in Houston (only time I'll say that about a former Pel).

If Jrue walks, which I think he will, you've gotta immediately stretch Asik to free up frick you money for George Hill, Teague, or Kyle Lowry. If not them, overpay Mills, or Collison (with Boogie's consent). If all else fails, swing for the fences with Yogi Ferrell or Trey Burke and pray to God.

The thing that made me nervous about listening to KA in that podcast was that he seemed pretty certain that Jrue was not going to return. He sounded like someone who had personal knowledge imo. Regardless, we will find out soon enough.

If Jrue walks, I think the options are Teague and Mills. Teague is somewhere between the 15-17th best PG in the league and Mills is probably somewhere around 20 ... so I honestly think you just take whoever is the cheaper of the two.

I do like Teague's injury history, he went to Kentucky, and ran an offense in Atlanta based around 2 big men (Horford and Millsap), so I would lean that way.

Mills is a pro in the locker room, so with Boogie on the roster, I could see why Pelicans would lean that way. Also he was the best PG on the second best team in the Western Conference this year and is used to playing in the South West division.

If there are strong indications Jrue is leaving, go ahead and stretch Asik and made the moves to bring in a good PNR point to run shite.

Let someone else overpay Jrue.

Is it? What has Holiday done in the last 4 years for this organization? He's been hurt, often played sparingly when his status was up in the air, and took his sweet arse time to the start of last season when we absolutely needed him.

The team supported all of everything, marketed him to appease his little ego, and isn't even being considered in the offseason by Holiday. It's a pretty shite move.

Consider, Paul George is at least telling the Pacers now. If the Pelicans had known last season Holiday was going to completely leverage the Pels to leave in the offseason, there's likely zero chance he's still on the team. But he didn't cause he's simply not "max no matter what good".

But from a matter of straight line perspective, Holiday is screwing the Pels way more than George did, and he may not even be done.

What if he goes into the offseason and drags the Pels along for the ride, using their offer as a baseline for where he wants to be? Is it THAT improbable of a scenario right now? The Pels being days behind other teams in Free Agency to make him happy? What if the team doesn't meet with other players to try to show Holiday love? These aren't ridiculous scenarios and Holiday knows what he's doing as much as Demps is dumb for getting played.

I think the Pels deserve a certain amount of loyalty from Holiday if the offer they give is fair and in the ball park of the market. I don't know if they will get it.

wait until draft night and then speculate about Jrue

after the draft we all will know who will be in need of PG

if Fultz, Ball, Fox, Smith, Ntilikina will go to Phila, LA, Sacto, NY, Dallas - you will have only few teams with cap space and need for PG (Minny, Brooklyn, Denver)

you're forgetting a couple of things:

the FREE part of free agency

the Pels appear to have ignored doctor's orders for a minutes limit during his 2nd year here, perhaps causing further setbacks for Holiday

what if the team paid Demps and the front office to come up with contingency plans? or paid them to communicate with players and their agents regularly throughout the year?

what if Holiday has told them for the past year that he wants to test the market?

or what if he told them at exit interviews that he wasn't thrilled with his new role as 3rd banana and more of an off ball player in the offense?

I think it's as simple as Jrue thinks his market value is higher than the Pelicans first offer. I don't know exactly how informed MM's speculations are, but at one point he said his best guess was Jrue would end up resigning for around 5/$115 which would start him out around $19.5 million. If that's close to what's been offered then I can definitely see Jrue and his agent thinking he'll probably sign elsewhere. But as pawel just pointed out, the market for PG might not be nearly as robust as he thinks it will be.

As a basketball historian, you're smarter than how you're acting here. How often have teams chased top flight free agents at the same position as the main player they're courting?

Yeah, I don't have much faith in Demps, but acting like the Pelicans are going to just chase Holiday around if he implied he's probably leaving as heavily as you just did...that's a special move even for Demps.

Another fairy tale ending for someone on the team with the terrible medical staff. As much as it's easy and I even concur with the likelihood that our staff does suck, these guys are miraculously healthy in contract years. That has to go into your opinion when talking about our staff.

Blindly defend the guy. I really don't care. Ive said Demps was stupid if he gets played here.

Regarding the wife comment, how many times have you seen or heard of Lauren in this city, while Jrue has spent his time here doing charity work etc. She's not exactly a regular wife. Its not hard to connect the dots there. Jrue hasn't seemed unhappy here, yet his famous wife has noticeably been absent.

I think you are getting your Teagues confused. The good Teague, the one we would get went to Wake Forest not long after CP3 left there. The Teague that went to Kentucky and played with AD hasn't done anything in the NBA and is in the D League now

I don't get what you think Jrue owes the Pelicans.

He got traded here, had to deal with mishandled injuries, and took time off to take care of his wife and kid. When he and his family were healthy, he played well for us.

It didn't work out for either party and now he is looking elsewhere. I don't understand why you are trying to make Jrue out to be the bad guy here.
