Jrue was trying to get out of a bad situation with the 76ers. He knew that if he said something his chances of leaving that S*** hole would decline and he would be stuck there. He was 22 and the docs were telling him he was healing fine. At 22 everyone thinks their immune to injury and sickness, especially men, which is why most younger men don't have health insurance and do not visit the doc frequently.
Jrue did what 90% of us do on job interview's when asked a question that could put a stain on our character/resume and lead to us not getting the job. WE LIE!

As pissed as I am about this, if we instead kept our picks we probably would've drafted Burke and Saric. I prefer the situation we're in now compared to that.

Now, there's always the possibility there was another trade offer for that Nerlens pick on draft day.

Whoa. If the doctors told him he was "healing fine" and he repeated those words, that is very different than lying.

If he knew he was hurt and lied to the Pelicans about the injury, then he's just as guilty as the Sixers in this situation. I don't believe this happened. He seemed to like Philly and to be blindsided by the trade.

Others have Monty quotes about Holiday wanting to play through his injury/rush his rehab. If he just doesn't want to admit pain, that is an problem for me. His body makes him millions for a limited amount of time. He needs to protect himself.

You can be mindful of your body and not be "soft"

This is where I fall on this mostly. And about the Jrue trade as a whole.

We pick burke and our "pg of the future" is a straight up liability on the court.

regardless, if the trade had been holiday for #6 I don't think anyone would have called that trade anything but fair. it was the second pick that swung the balance and has always stuck in my craw

we are not privy to the negotiations or other offers, but even peak jrue holiday was never worth 2 lottery picks considering the opportunity cost of the second pick (either the player they could have taken or the value as a traceable asset)

Healing fine and lying about the severity of the actual injury are two entirely different things. Remember he had about 10-12 weeks to heal up before the trade happened, for all we know they told the Pels it was a minor injury and why would the pels suspect anything different?

"Hey Jrue hows the leg/foot?"

"Oh just a minor sprain, nothing serious. Doc say's I'm healing just fine."

"Great, Great...well looks like you got the job!"

They may not have even said that. He didn't miss any games at the end of the year.

I hated the trade from the start. Noel is turning into a decent player plus Jrue wouldn't eat into the cap with his large contract.

Which was easily blamed on Collins quitting on the team.

he quit on the team after the all star break?
not buying it

holidays decline was blamed on overuse/fatigue at the time, as I recall. There were some observers even advocating to shut him down over the last 20 games or so

water under the bridge now
as I said I would have leapt at the trade if it was #6 straight up
that's an acceptable risk

Something im wondering:

When did philly pay the pels 3 mil? Did they do it recently or like a year ago and this is reported now for some reason?

If the latter, that's really strange to come out now.

What's up with this Noel love all of a sudden? I'd still take Jrue over him any day.

No, it has not been 3 seasons in a row. Jrue has been on the Pels for 2 years not 3. His last year in Philly he played 78 games.

Noel is a non factor in this discussion. He was never going to be a Pel.
