It is obvious that Monty is not the long term answer. So what is the solution?

Last night is not all on Monty. Yes, he deserves a lot of the blame, but its not all on him. Last night I was depressed leaving the game, then extremely angry. I wanted his head on a platter.

Given time to reflect, even Monty's most ardent defenders (Jester) have to know that he is just not the long term answer. He's a good guy. He's a decent coach.

But he's not THE coach. It is beyond obvious. Just watch our offensive sets. Watch Kerr's. Watch our defensive schemes. Watch Kerr's.

So what is the solution?

If you fire him this offseason...do we have to have THE guy hired this offseason? Who is that? Is it Thibs? Is it a hot assistant on Kerr or Budenholzer's staffs?

Who is out there that you think can be the guy that would be available now?

Can you fire Monty and hire a guy is another placeholder for a year or two until you find THE guy?

Can you afford to wait another year with Monty to find the right coach?

FYI, Hoiberg, who I was most intrigued by, had heart surgery a couple of weeks ago. He's not going anywhere.

I don't think there is an obvious answer right now.

He's not the long term answer, but I don't think he will be fired. I think his contract runs out next year

On one hand i think firing him could really piss off certain guys (AD).

On the other hand i think that you cant cater like that, and that if you hire a great coach that wins games, those players will get the frick over it.

Thibs
Cal
Miller

Off the top of my head. I will dig deeper if I have the slightest hint that Monty's seat is any sort of warm.

i don't know that's true. i've defended monty a good bit, and i've wavered a lot. like you, I did this over the last 12 hours..

now looking back, i don't know how much of that game was his fault. i mean, it's about getting the guys in a position to win. he did that. he matched GSW's lineup. his team just fell apart in the 4th like they've done a lot. so is that his fault? it's become a trend. it may very well be. but i'm not sure what more he could have done last night. so i'm still on the fence. i want to believe the guy has coached his arse off and just been so unfortunate. he's done so well this series, and this team could just as easily be up 2-1 instead of down 3-0. again, that may say something about his not being the long term answer. or it may say something about a young team growing up in the postseason.

A small team that loves to play small ball vs. a traditional team that prefers to grind it out.

This is not something to go in the plus column. He let them dictate which players we should put on the floor.

Could he not draw up more than 1 play for Ryno in the last 5 minutes? He was obviously on last night, hit two shots on the baseline, next possession Tyreke pulls a dumbass hero ball move and gets called for a charge. That was beyond stupid. It pisses me off just thinking about how selfish that shite was.

The other problem is if he doesn't win (and we think it might be because of coaching), he'll be pissed off and leave.

No. The contention window needs to be open for the 2018-19 season, that's when AD starts getting the leverage to leave if things don't go well. You have time for a stop gap upgrade over Monty but not the guy that can take you to the top. Like Karl could have been and Thibs may be. I heard on Sirius NBA radio that Thibs out of Chicago is 95% done and a deal with Orlando has been more or less worked out. Not sure how true that is but he's probably the most interesting stop gap that also might be able to put you over the top.

You can, but there seem to be many more candidates than usual right now. Multiple top college coaches are throwing their names in the hat along with good coaches fired for creative differences (Malone and Thibs). The available talent might force your hand as much as anything if you don't believe in Monty.

I think the harder decision is Demps. Teams do often like to bring in their own guys, but part of why you fire Monty is because you've seen a team that can beat any team on any given night if they were only more consistent in living up to their talent level.

that's been tyreke all season. all damn season. we live and die by him. if he could only get it through his head that he is not the guy every night, this team would be so much better.

I'm going to be absolutely pissed if this happens and Monty stays at this point. We've been on par talent wise in this series with a 67 win team. We have the guard play and shooters to be a very similar team to Golden State. Demps is very underrated because he's had bad luck with his 2 biggest additions (Gordon and Jrue) missing substantial amounts of time since acquiring them. Who knows where this series is right now if Jrue is 100%?

Why can't it be both?

Obviously this team has a LOT of growing up to do. They need experience and they are getting it.

But at the same time, you can see an appreciable difference between certain coaches and Monty. It is what it is.

You have to ask yourself if you think he has the ability to take this team to the next level. Can he be a top-7ish coach in the league? If not...whats the point of holding on to him?

Every year with Monty as coach is one year of him getting closer to AD and one more year wasted on the AD contention time span. When you have him through 2019-2020, it'd be nice to see big picture thinking and not waste 20% of your remaining time with someone who is obviously not going to get us where we need to be in time for big contract #2.

Blaming the lack of fouling on the players failure to execute is exhibit A. I know there's a lack of practice time in the NBA, but surely end of game situations are worked on as much in the NBA as 2 minute drills are in the NFL.

Calipari. I'm not saying I want either, I'm just saying the coaching pool is usually pretty shallow and it's deeper than normal right now.
