Is it a foregone conclusion that we stretch Asik this offseason?

Seems to be the only logical move, right?

Not if we want to use the MLE. Stretching Asik creates less cap room than our available MLE. In order to create enough room to sign anyone of note we would have to dump more salaries, and there goes any chance of trading for a PG or SF.

i love how he continues to be listed as "illness" for reason why he isn't playing.

They said he had a bacterial infection. Those can be a bitch.

Obviously there was no rush to bring him back as he's not playing anyway, but the weight and stamina he lost apparently did him in to the point that they shut him down.

That's what you get for drinking the tap water in the wrong parts of Mexico.

If he dies what happens to the cap hit? Serious question.

The front office ruined a chance at a great team by not doing more at the trade deadline. The Sixers want Holiday and the Pelicans should have traded him, Asik, Moore, and Hill for expiring contracts. Would have cleared enough space to go after a max player and Paul. Instead the team is a mismatch of pieces.

I have no idea where people get these fake trades from. The 76ers would never have done that deal. Why would they take on hill and asiks contracts when Jrue is exprining and they could just sign him in the offseason?

Maybe his bacterial infection forces him to retire and become a spokesman for The Clean Water Initiative.

I noticed him on the bench last game and saw how skinny he was. Guess they weren't making it up.

Regarding the OP, if they can spare the roster spot for the next 2 years, the best play is to probably keep him until his last year. Assuming his contract gets grandfathered in the new CBA, in his last year you can trade his $3 million guaranteed for about $18 million. Asik + picks for a starter.

I hope they operate above the cap, no need to stretch him.
