i agree with you. but when i read comments like these (and this isnt a shot at Shameless at all)

quote:

This move almost assuredly moves Jrue off ball as well since I'd expect Boogie to be doing the bulk of the remaining ball handling

i am confused. if you're turning Holiday into a 3 and D guard, he isnt worth $126M

Maybe because the 3 of them were always fricking hurt?

I actually think the collection of Holiday, Gordon, Anderson, Evans, and Davis was a good core of talent. We really don't know how good that group could have really been since they were so snake-bitten with injuries.

I'm excited for it, especially to see how him and Cousins do now that they are back on the same team

Meh but mostly because of Solomon Hill starting with Rondo. If we had a shooter on the wing I'd be all for it.

We definitely have a strong defensive lineup. I have an optimistic feeling about this signing.

Rondo was #247 in the league in defensive rating last season. He simply has not been a good defensive player since he left Boston and that is the Rondo posters remember. Now if regular season Rondo turns into playoff Rondo, we have a legit shot at a top 6 seed.

Dell has to get a shooter because a lineup with Rondo and Hill starting will be death to our spacing.

We need another 3 guard is the bottom line. Another shooter has to be added. I really like Rondo on this team we just need one more piece.

People are really basing a lot off of one game..

That's why Rondo is so hard to call.

He has been good at defense in the past, hasnt been in awhile.
He has ran the PnR effectively, he's been bad at it in recent years.
He has been a team leader, but has been cancerous the past few stops

Mavs, Bulls, and King fans were ecstatic to add Rondo. This move should be approached with skepticism, bc Rondo of the past few years hasnt earned any optimism outside of two playoff games last season.

Prefer Pelicans starting 5 with Rondo vs Bulls Starting 5 with Rondo but that's just me

According to my non-scientific poll, 98% of fans are either in favor of the signing or at worst neutral.

I agree. One more wing with a good outside shot and we'd have us a real roster.

I like the signing. I don't know that we will, but this gives us the opportunity to play strong perimeter defense, rebound everything with AD/DC, and play the grind it out type of game that gives us or only chance against teams like GS and Houston. This is actually the team you needed with Monty.

I'm looking at someone like Klay Thompson. He's able to guard 1-3. He's a knock down shooter. He's able to get off his own shot when the situation calls for it.

Klay has one of the best jumpers the game has ever seen, but if Jrue can get his 3 pt % to stay around 40%, he could provide the same type of role that Klay plays on the Warriors. We know their offense is predicated on ball movement from all 5 positions and moving without the ball. If Jrue can pick up those skills, he will not just be a 3 and D wing. He could be an upper escelon 3/D wing.

Before people start freaking out that I'm comparing Jrue to Klay, realize I am only saying that is the role I expect him to play in this offense. And again, if he can figure it out, he could earn that deal.

Doesn't matter, they'll freak out because to them Klay is a dead eye shooter and Jrue isn't so your comparison fails. I made this argument like 2 years ago and it was about as popular as suggesting we trade for Rubio. It's like people have no clue how to value anything outside of shooting. Even the effect of rebounding is heavily discounted on this board.

And they'll say you can't shoot if your 3pt percentage is under 40.

re: Jrue and Klay- i'm not a moron. i can recognize the difference between the players w/o #wellactually Klay Thompson is a better shooter

there are 2 problems:

1) Holiday has never played off ball consistently. you're asking him to do something he has not done in 8 years as a pro and god knows how many years as an amatuer

2) you just signed off on $5/126M to a guy whom you now want to take on a role he has never played before. maybe he can adapt (limited sample w/ Cousins last year was not promising, but limited sample is limited sample). he didnt earn that money as an off ball player.

It's like people have no clue how to value anything outside of shooting.

not really. it's valuing what a guy can do. Holiday is a ball dominant player on offense (and, yes, he's not a particularly good primary creator- i've stumped for him to be the off the bench scorer after his stint there a couple years back).

if you're asking him to switch that up entirely, that just doesnt add up to me w/r/t Holiday's skills on offense. if you're telling me the system will be set up to allow multiple guys to initiate/create, great.

maybe it works great. i hope so. but plugging guys into new roles isnt as easy as we would like to think- see Evans, Tyreke and Gordon, Eric

ETA- again, most of the confusion/debate/disagreement comes back to how we use/interpret positional labels. when we say SG, that can mean a ton of different things.

e.g.- Holiday is a creator who can do some things off ball. Moore is an off ball guy who can do a little bit off the bounce. Rondo is a creator w/ almost nothing to offer off ball.

He may thrive. Perhaps he hasn't been playing to his greatest strengths because he's a capable enough PG and was better then the other guards around him running the point.

Maybe he'll look confused and turn the ball over.

We won't know how he adapts to the change, if there is in fact a change, until we see it on the court.

With AD and DC he's got to be licking his chops at the opportunity to be a scorer/shooter more than a facilitator. I have to imagine teams will give up the 3 until we show we can beat them with it. With those two on the court, I've got to think there will be some open looks from outside.
