thats probably the worst part. it's all speculation right now.

I wasn't aiming that at you. But when I brought up Jrue filling the Klay role in the past most people knee jerked without even actually thinking about the idea because of the difference in shooting.

Holiday has never played off ball consistently.

I don't think they want him playing off ball necessarily. Like you said, the money doesn't add up for that role. They keep talking about having someone take pressure off him. The common diagnosis with Holiday is that he's not instinctual and when he has to run the offense he has to think his way through his progressions too much. Maybe it's not an "off ball" role as much as a "when you get the ball you now have 2 options instead of 5 so you can be more decisive."

Jordan Crawford was able to hit the ground running in part because he was so decisive at the point of attack. But he also wasn't trying to figure out which play to run at first. He was just playing basketball, saw a pick and ran a PnR.

a bit understated, yes?

Can we find a comp that isnt one of the best 3P shooters the NBA has ever seen?

It's a pretty unique role though. Guard the best player 1-3, be a scorer and a creator.

Take a look at what Dion Waiters did in MIA last season, you got your Jrue comp imo.

quote:

Guard the best player 1-3

Solo will always take this guy if they have any kind of length, though, same with Klay

quote:

be a scorer

I guess. Klay is on a whole other level though, yes?

Klay is just so efficient on bulk 3s, he can crank out 30, 40, 50, 60 point games and no one blinks an eye. The majority of guys on Klay's level as a scorer are on his team.

quote:

creator.

You see, Klay I dont consider Klay much of a creator. I would consider Jrue a good creator even when he played off the ball.

Waiters defensive stats were better than I was expecting but he was still not as good as Jrue. You're also right that Klay doesn't create enough for what I'm talking about. I tried to find players that fit this role so I did a search on BasketballReference for

17 PER - usually an above average starter
20% Ast% - usually a good passer
2 DWS - usually a good defender

The list it came back with was pretty interesting. Holiday is near the bottom of this WS sorted list for good reason, but it's not just PGs. It also has Blake and Butler and Cousins. It's mostly SuperStar creators. LINK

Another interesting name on the list is Elfrid Payton.

Nice work

I broadened the PER requirement to 14 and Patty Mills Dennis Schroeder are two interesting comps as well

great thoughts and an interesting list.

i think you're right about keeping it simpler for Holiday. and also simpler for Davis and Cousins too. can create easier reads, but they've got to keep moving the ball and themselves.

was curious about Jokic missing that list....Cousins actually had a lower TOV%, which surprised me. and his AST% was at 27 in SAC before dropping to 20 in NO. if they can get buy in from everyone.......

The Pels core is at least different than GS. Hou and OKC and to a lesser extent Min are just GS Lite. They should all do well in the West but they will get run off the court by GS barring multiple injuries.

Pels (on paper) should give those teams matchup problems with the AD/Boogie combo.

what do you mean w/ GS Lite? just that they dont feature two bigs w/ skills out to 20 feet? pretty much every team other than the Pels is GS Lite.

the Warriors are impossible b/c they are unreal on both ends. to me, it's about trying to slow down their offense, which takes a lot of very good wing defenders. you can't beat them trading baskets, especially not post ups for 3s

Pels pose some interesting problems, if they figure out their own offense. but i dont see them having the personnel to slow down the Warriors on the other end.

Houston seems to be hoping for 3PT fire in 7 game series and outscore the Warriors. will be fun to watch them, like the Cavs, try.

OKC is interesting. they just might have the best chance to slow them down w/ George on board.

Pretty much this...I didn't think we could get him so cheap, guess that's how far he's fallen, definitely worth a shot at this rate

Is it a sure bet he's starting? Have you all looked at him as a Tim F replacement? Could be possible that Jrue plays PG and Rondo backs him up.

I kinda feel like one of Rondo or Jrue will be on the court at all times. So in a sense, Rondo will back Jrue up at the point, but I also think that he'll start next to him.
