I think this was an amazing sign considering his performance in the playoffs last year. He will cause Steph nightmares with his perimeter dThe only downside is he can't shoot the deep ball. But he's a veteran who will bring a great mindset to the pelicans. I also think this might be the end of gentry. None of the pelicans players fit his kind of offense.

We definitely have a strong defensive lineup. I have an optimistic feeling about this signing.

Way better version of what Tim Frazier brought to the Pels toward the end of last season (starting alongside of Holiday).

If you couldn't get Bledsoe (or maybe Lin) I see it a solid low risk move and a good sign that they didn't overpay for a guy like Jackson who could have royally screwed our cap going forward if he didn't work out.

We are his 5th team in 5 seasons. The Bulls gave him 3 million to get rid of him. He has never been a back-up and we just made Holiday the 6th highest paid PG in the league. Instead Holiday will slide over, mainly be a SG, where he'll be the 3rd highest paid one in the league (behind Harden and Derozan)..

if decides to buy in on offense, commit to playing defense on a consistent basis, and be the vet presence he can be, it will be good.

problem is, the past few years make those things seem unlikely. but it's a cheap deal for one year on a guy who is still talented.

if they do get into the playoffs or have a national primetime game, it will be fun to watch playoff Rondo

Rondo is Ish Smith on crack. He's the exact point guard prototype I wanted feeding our two monstars. I know people are freaking out a little bit about spacing but true old school point guards are their own spacing. They create for others by seeing and creating weaknesses in the defense.

This move almost assuredly moves Jrue off ball as well since I'd expect Boogie to be doing the bulk of the remaining ball handling. A Jrue Holiday focused on scoring and playing defense could live up to that deal we gave him.

Will be fun to see AD finishing lobs again too! This to me is getting Rubio $10 mil cheaper without having to trade assets. Rondo does have character concerns but has shown in the right situation those aren't an issue. Not only do I expect AD and Boogie to keep Rondo on point, I could see Rondo being able to help AD keep Boogie's anger issues subdued some.

Also, you can't underestimate adding high IQ veteran winners. We learned that years ago with QPon/Cole.

It's dumb to compare salaries of deals that were signed before the cap inflation, to current deals. Holiday will be paid as a top 10 SG, and he is a top 10 SG.

here's my main issue w/ Bledose, Lin, Jackson, Rondo or any name PG thats been tossed around:

why in the world do you give Holiday, a guy who has always played on ball, 5/$126 to play off ball more?

Everything I said is a fact. They gave him 3M so that they could waive him. It got them out of the 14M, but they are 30M under the cap and don't have an established PG. But yet they pay him to walk?

Not top 10, top 3. He just got a bigger deal than Beal or McCollum. They just signed their deals pretty recently. I know he is a combo guard, but he is supposed to be a PG. That is what everybody has been telling me for 3 years. I don't know of any top 10 PG that would get pushed off his position, much less after they sign the richest contract in franchise history..

Fact taken out of context. Do you even know how max salaries work? McCollum and Beal couldn't get paid more than Jrue due to salary restrictions.

Name the SGs better than Jrue who get paid less than him (not due to salary restrictions).

They aren't looking to win, they are notoriously cheap, and they just traded for a player who they think will be their PG of the future and will want to get him playing time.

Why are you so concerned over which guard position he plays? If he plays better off the ball (which he showed last year) then why are you worrying about whether the letters "PG" or "SG" come after his name? He's going to be a combo guard. Pretty stupid argument you're trying to make. Would be like getting upset that we got boogie cause it makes AD a high paid "PF" instead of "C"

did he though? he struggled a good bit w/ the addition of Cousins in a more off ball role. before Cousins, he was playing pretty well playing the creator role once he returned to the lineup

this is where all the confusion comes in. i dont think there needs to be a big distinction between the spots. and i suspect the Pels feel similarly if they want to run a more flowing offense

but when i read others post about needing a ball dominant PG to move Jrue to SG or that, now, Rondo should be running the offense and Jrue being the SG, i have questions about what exactly they are thinking about

Basically just that Jrue needs another player to share ball handling responsibilities with. The more ball handlers you have, the better IMO. I don't think Jrue will necessarily be "off ball", but he will share the load with another more capable decision maker.

Because he negotiated and has posed as a premier PG. That is why he got the max or how he helped frame his case. His numbers skew towards being a top 10 PG, especially when you factor in his defense. His case as a SG would be much more suspect and he would be horribly overpaid. He has never scored over 18 ppg and has never guarded SGs full time. Who are normally bigger and physical. I think he can be good as a SG, but I can't say that he will an upper echelon player there. It's a gamble and given his contract, I'd rather keep him where he works best or has in the past..

If that is the case, then what happened with Gordon and Evans? Why couldn't either of those ball dominant combo guards co-exist with Holiday?

I love it, and the whole argument about jrue moving to SG, I like that too, not only will you have 2 good ball handlers on the floor, you will have 3 with boogie being very capable of handling it, can't go wrong with too many ball handlers (unless selfishness gets in the way). I'm also excited about our bench play, Quinn cook looks very capable of running the second unit but I don't think he will have to, I think jrue will start the games but I think his dominance of getting his shots will come with the second unit, kinda like okc did with harden. I also love the improvements of diallo (minus the fouling, and needs to learn to not jump at every pump fake) I think he deserves a shot at ajincas minutes. Combine that with the return of Qpon (hopefully) and etwaun Moore, and Cunningham (if he signs back with us) I think we could have a solid 12 man rotation
