Thank you. According to that Houston has less than 8m if they renounce every free agent. So about the exact situation as us. I ask again, how can they chase major free agents and we can't?

Well...yeah. Because its not feasible.

We cannot simply sign him as you implied. So it must be via S&T. They will not want Ryno. So it either has to be a multi team deal or another player that I cannot foresee. He would also have to sign for a low enough amount for us to be able to use exceptions to fill out the rest of roster and not cross the tax threshold.

If we Trade a player then we swap a useful player for Monroe. We are essentially down two (Asik + ??? Player). We would have like 6-7 players under contract. How do you propose we will the other 7 or so spots? Minimum deals?

I get a team like Houston doing something similar to get Aldridge: he's an elite level player and they already have 2 stars.

Monroe isn't LA. He's not Love. He's not Durant.

You do this type of thing for Durant. Not Greg Monroe.

Well, they say they are but its unlikely they even have a shot. They would need to swing S&Ts as well.

Knicks are frontrunners for two free agents -- Greg Monroe and Arron Afflalo, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Those are realistic targets.

Because you're just saying

A GM could make it work, if he wanted.

Our easiest path to Monroe, if you're ok with Monroe costing Anderson and Asik, got shut down when Detroit traded for Illyasova.

Houston has 2 maxed out stars and a couple of other high dollar guys. Buy they are chasing Aldridge and Draymont Green now. How can they make it work and we can't?

Because Houston only has 3 non rookie scale contracts on the books. Dwight, Harden and Ariza account for $46 million. Everyone else they are committed to is either on a team option or cheap rookie deal/cap hold. Houston is an unusual "success" story in that they built through drafting in purgatory (low-mid teens) and were in the right place at the right time to land 2 disgruntled stars. Just because they have cap space to go after a big fish doesn't mean they'll be as good as last year either. Landing a big fish will cost them a good bit of depth. They've already talked about dumping Jones and may well lose Brewer and Josh Smith, plus they'd also lose Papanikolau and Prigioni creating cap space. So they are having to make tradeoffs too, it's just a different set of tradeoffs.

For starters, Houston has tradeable assets.

Could we sign and trade Asik and a future pick for him and then lock him up to a long term deal?

Detroit has Drummond so it would have to be a 3 team trade, but theoretically that could happen.
