Pachulia/Biyombo/etc will get more money and years than Asik has, and the defensive centers the following year might get even more over paid. All of a sudden Asik isn't looking as terrible in mid July.

I think this is where people will need to reevaluate Asik. His contract may start looking very attractive in a month.

In a month. absolutely not. At this point he is literally worthless.
If he is healthy and hustles his arse off like he's supposed to and plays decent enough defense while not being a total frickup on offense, then in November, his contract MIGHT not be that bad.

Just want to put this out there yet again-- this summer you won't have to worry about matching salaries in almost any trade, for any team, because there is so much cap room

Unless the trade happens very late, of course.

At this point, you literally don't know the definition of the word literally.

If we resigned Gordon at his current salary, would you "literally" shite your pants?

After this year, the comparison will be Omer Asik at $11M vs. Greg Monroe at $30M. I'm taking Asik at $11M and not looking back.

or neither.
Monroe is not a max player. he just got relegated to the bench on the Bucks and they can't trade him. Who the hell is going to give him a max salary?

Asik at any money sucks, at this point. Until he gets back to being what he was his second year in the league, which i doubt it b/c i think he has health issues that will never get better, he sucks. He's not even a top 30 C in the league anymore. he's a minimum salary guy at best. There have been 14 centers drafted in the 1st round over the last 3 years. All but two are better than him, Embiid, and that's b/c he hasn't played yet and Nogueira, who's been traded a good bit and been in the D-League.
I would bet most people would rather the 5 centers taken in this years draft over him as well.

All that being said, I hope he is healthy this year and plays well, if we are keeping him this year, i just have very little hope in that b/c i think injuries have taken their toll on him and he's just not going to be the same guy he was 5 or 6 years ago. And he has no skills to fall back on.

Yeah, I wouldn't want this trade just because I think there's a chance we keep Monroe. Dump Asik for nothing as soon as you can (2017 at the earliest) or just ride it out and let him teach Diallo all the tricks he's had to use to make up for his lack of athleticism.

So, if, and it's a big if, they could convince Monroe to be happy as a 6th man, I think it's an intriguing move. Find a mobile 5 (maybe Diallo in time), that's an interesting 3 man big rotation, assuming Davis can make a leap as an anchor.

The optimisim on Asik's contract isn't crazy. It will look better in context, but he has to also not look like a corpse first. Maybe Milwaukee is just eager to dump Monroe, who knows, but I'm not holding my breath on teams being interested in him this summer.

I still think the window to move him is the 2017 offseason, but if all a team needs is to see that he's currently healthy, I believe he's playing for Turkey this summer.

As for Monroe as a 6th man, I wouldn't be against that in terms of talent. Gentry probably would like a big that can pass and Erman has built defenses around bad rim protectors before. But I just think he'll get too much money in 2017 to be worth being paid like our 2nd best player.

Yeah. That's the key- can he be sold on coming off the bench (and the pay cut it would entail)?

He probably needs the Enes Kanter treatment/plan. Because I don't think you can play him much in the playoffs when things get serious.

What if Asik only plays 10 minutes per night and sucks?

Also do not see anyone paying Greg Monroe $30M per next offseason.

Maybe not, but did anyone think Bazemore could potentially command $15-$18 million or Lin $15 million or Harkless $18 million? Not sure what to expect anymore.

I think they need to see that not only is he healthy, but that he can be mildly productive and did not hit a cliff. Even in the new cap environment, Asik is being paid like a productive bench big and he was not that. Combine that with evidence (from the draft and elsewhere) that non-shooting bigs who can't run the floor or protect the rim at an elite level are being devalued.

Let me save you the suspense. Asik will continue to suck.

So does Evans and Asik for Monroe and Michael Carter Williams start to make sense for both sides?

Pellies would have to throw in a future 1st round pick IMO. Asik is close to worthless although he'd be a better fit in the East than West.

If I was the Bucks and my options were letting Monroe walk after this season or taking on Asik, I'd probably just let him play out the season and walk.

Agreed - a first round pick MIGHT sway them but them starting the season with Monroe and maybe moving his expiring at the deadline seems a better option.
