The near-consensus opinion of Demps a week ago was overwhelmingly negative. I think it's safe to presume he gained some goodwill by forcefully raping Vlade Divacs.

Overall, considering his whole tenure here in New Orleans including but not limited to the Boogie trade, what is your current opinion of Demps and the front office?

The more we hear about the situation the more it seems to be a fault against Vivek and not a praise towards Demps.

Vivek is apparently in love with Buddy and has been courting him all year. I don't think teams could have offered much of anything to beat our offer in his eyes.

But yeah, the trade probably saved Dell's job.

He's earned a stay of execution for sure. I hope Ferry gets a more permanent title this offseason.

He is still a terrible GM. A blind squirrel can find a nut every once in a while.

We just have the 29th worst GM instead of the 30th

This.

I question his ability to build a team, but he just knocked one out of the park. You can blame the Kings all you want, but Demps made it happen before the league could react. He deserves a ton of credit. His handling of the situation was A+ as well. Showing Cousins the love and laying it on crazy thick with Jrue atm. At this point, we have to hope for the best with him as he might be our best shot at getting Cousins to sign on the dotted line in 16 months.

I honestly don't know what to make of him right now at the moment. I thought I had a pretty good feel for his capabilities as a GM, had started coming to terms with the thought of AD requesting a trade in a year or two and the team relocating to another city the day after Benson dies, but this completely blindsided me and now everything I thought I knew has been thrown into question.

As of this very moment, I have no opinion. Just going to wait and see how this all shakes out.

I'm so happy they didn't trade of Okafor. Unless Asik was part of the deal I can't fathom that scenario playing out well. The very fact that they were rumored to be close to a deal left me with zero confidence in The GM and then this happened.

I'm really curious to see what if anything else transpires before the deadline... I have to think they've got to be at least trying to move TJ or Ajinca.

They will try to move TJ but the problem is who's gonna trade for a guy that they can go after in July without giving up assets

I really liked the offseason (Moore and Hill), and this deal is awesome (I'm glad he realized that Vlade was obviously the most inept GM in the league). I'm really pumped that he chose to zig when the entire league is attempting to zag. I feel like it's a lost cause trying to play small ball and beat the warriors.

I can understand his past moves, as they made sense from a philosophical standpoint. He really got kinda screwed with the injury bug of Jrue, EG, Anderson, and Tyreke.

I won't lie, I was definitely in favor of cleaning house before this deal, because nothing has seemed to work out and we needed to ensure that AD would stay. I felt like they were going to make a trade for Okafor and that would reflect similarly to the Jamison trade that Cleveland made when attempting to keep LeBron.

He has aquired the most talent in the short history of NOLA basketball. You got to give the guy some credit.

He has assembled a young Big 3 with an average age of 25 and 8 combined all star invites in one of the smallest and youngest markets in the NBA. He did this while still having some role players such as Hill, Moore, and Casspi on the roster. He also has all of his draft picks currently following this year.

He has to be near the top of the NBA.

yup.

most, if not all GMs would have done that trade given the assets required to give up for Cousins AND Casspi

1. a shooting guard with potential, but not a surefire to be a top 5 SG much less a top 10 SG
2. a combo guard in his final year of the contract, injury riddled and bad knee issues at the moment
3. a shooting guard, hometown hero type of guy, who is a damn good shooter but limited elsewhere
4. a top 3 protected 1st rounder which would be a pretty bad pick if you were to make the playoffs

the job saved dell, but you can't forget his ineptitude. 29/30 GMs in Dell's shoes pulls the trigger. the 1 guy to not being vlade.

He's not bottom 5, but he surely isn't even top half.

I am still pretty dubious about his abilities. I think he may have just fallen into a franchise and career saving move through luck and the stupidity of another team, and I am worried that he still can frick it up by failing to put together the finishing pieces that could truly make us a contender. Hopefully I'm just being a pessimistic Debbie downer, and he'll be alright. I'm really only a very casual NBA fan, so I'm hoping I'm just off base on my evaluation of his moves.

From what I can observe about the NBA it does seem like teams can get caught in tiers and it is difficult to really improve a team from a mid tier because of the scarcity of talent. It seems like often teams' hands are tied, and they have to make desperation moves to try to move up a tier and rely on luck to acquire talent that makes a difference. It seems like some of the bad moves may have been those sorts of situations. It's not like the NFL where you can "just" consistently make good moves and wind up with a good roster that can compete. In the NBA you have to make home run acquisitions to be a contender. It seems like we've fallen into 2 of those. The hard part should be over. I guess we'll see.

Part of me thinks the only reason we have cousins right now is because of the Kings owner weird obsession with Hield. I think any GM with Buddy Hield could have gotten Cousins.

Having said that i'll cut him a bit of a break and see what else he can pull.

2 of the 3 moves would have been made by every GM in the league in complete fairness. I'm not entirely sure where I stand with dell right now.

Would've much rather taken a chance on a younger assistant coach who never had a shot as a HC than to hire a guy who's already had 4 chances as HC and only had 3 winning records in 12 years
