Cousins recruiting Melo?

This is based all on trying to read between the lines on social media posts, but Oleh at TBW has pieced together what he feels is a case that says Melo is one of the big names Cousins is trying to recruit.

It almost doesn't matter if that's the case though. As the article points out coming up with a winning trade package would be difficult with the Pels terrible assets and cap situation. Also, considering Melo is as much or more PF than SF now, it seems like Hill + Moore + multiple firsts (dumping Asik too) would be too much to give up for a piece that doesn't fit very well. Let Houston figure this one out.

Evidence #1: On Friday, a random tweet by a fan contemplated Melo joining New Orleans, tagging Cousins, Anthony Davis and the Pelicans in the process. Boogie responded on twitter with one word, “Facts.”
Evidence #2: A Pelicans fan Instagram account posted a picture of Melo and Boogie over the weekend. Hours later, Cousins liked the page and left an eyes emoji in the comments section.

I saw this on instagram. 0% chance of this happening.

multiple firsts? no thanks.
I like Melo, and i think he would thrive somewhere where he doesn't have to be the lead dog.
I agree he's more of a 4 now, but our team will still play a lot of small ball with AD at the 5 or Cousisn at the 5 with a traditional 3 at the 4, like Hill or Melo. we'd play situational basketball to close out games b/c we would likely suck on defense with melo at the 3 and our two big men in the game, but i'll take that offensive lineup any day of the week.
Melo is a good shooter. shot 42% on C&S 3's last year, and with Rondo at the point, i think you'd see olympics Melo drilling 3's all game.
I'd give up Solo/Moore and a first for him. I'm sure other moves need to be made for salary purposes. Doubt NYK does that though.
Solo/Moore/Ajinca/Diallo and a firsts for Melo/OQuiin. I really don't think many teams value Melo that much, especially at his salary. I would think that is more than fair.

This thread will give people something to do this week

1) Melo can score and he's a good player. Not great, but good.
2) He doesn't fit with this team at all unless he changes everything about the way he plays and even his position really, which ain't happening.
3) We don't have assets to acquire him.
I'll admit, a team core of AD, Cousins, Melo and Jrue would be pretty amazing to have. Especially because if we got Melo that means we got rid of Asik's contract. And while Melo may have a little leverage with his no trade clause, he doesn't want to be in New Orleans and can't force the Knicks to send him to us.
Nothing to see here.

I'm a known and confirmed Melo hater. He's a chucker and doesn't give a frick about winning. Never liked the guy. I've made fun of the Rockets relentlessly for going after him, thinking that will be a disaster.
However...
If we had the chance to do it at even a relatively reasonable price I would certainly consider it. I'm willing to take some risks to make Boogie/AD happy. If that does it then you have to consider it. I think it would probably be a disaster but its close to worth the risk.
That being said, 0% chance. We don't have the assets and I can't see Melo wanting to be in such a small market.

That's fine and all but this isn't going to happen.
Boogie is pushing the "I'm doing everything I can to perpetuate the notion that I am recruiting players to New Orleans" meme for some reason.
There are a few ways to interpret it but he's definitely got that narrative going.

Don't see how this could ever work as Asik is a necessary piece and the Knicks are already have Noah filling the C who gets paid boatloads for many years but doesn't contribute anything position.
Beyond the terrible fit, I don't see how the Pels could include Solo in any trade. I think the defense craters without him and his miniscule usage % is a + with the bigs. He just needs to be a more comfortable/better perimeter shooter.
So he would have to waive his no trade clause & trade kicker and Asik/Moore would have to make up the bulk of the Pels outgoing salary.

not true. qpon, hill, moore make a trade work. I am a bit optimistic as to what Hill and Qpon might bring to table this year though.

It is really a ridiculous article for TBW to put out as it is so unrealisitic. I assume everything is so, so they just wanted some clicks.

So does Jrue for Melo. I get that there are permutations that make it work without adding Asik, but I don't think any would be feasible from the Pels perspective. I cannot see them trading Hill for Melo as he is the only guy on the roster who can guard 3's.

While I do agree the there is no fit between the two parties, I don't exactly see it as preposterous of TBW to report this. I'm sure Cousins has reached out to Melo, just like Lillard and McCollum did.

Can't we not trade Jrue until January?

So, in your world, he gives up millions and the Knicks take on our bad contracts just to make us happy?

Yeah, and Boogie seems to want everyone to know he is doing so. There could be several reasons for this.
He wants everyone to know how "in" he is, and that he is a team player giving his all to improve his current team.
Maybe he really does want to make the Pels better. Maybe he's trying to show how mature he is. Maybe if he keeps saying how much he is talking to people, one of them will see it and it will work. Maybe he wants an excuse if he leaves. Who knows.
As for the Hill thing, I see the logic, but teams throw logic out the window when they can get a "star". They get the player and then worry about filling gaps and making the roster work later. Not that I personally even see Melo as a star at this point.

ding ding ding. now, Melo on the small ball, pre-Boogie Pels would be interesting.
like Fun Bunch, i'm glad Cousins is pushing this idea of getting stars to NO. but i dont think this is worth really thinking about
