On the Rockets Melo would be replacing Ryno and Melo is like Ryno cranked up to 11. An offensive blackhole that can score inside and out and doesn't play defense.

I'm not sure why I watched that.

They both think it would be an unmitigated disaster (which honestly, I tend to agree).

I didn't watch, probably won't ever watch it because First Take is hot take garbage.

And I will say I can just as easily make the case this would be a disaster, but to look at it from the position of how would it succeed, that is interesting to get a grasp of what the possibilities of this(highly improbable) acquisition would look like.

I think what would make it succeed would require first of all a complete buy in. Cousins and AD are committed. Can Melo and Rondo buy in? Because if they can buy in, if they can think redemption and proving the critics wrong, the possibilities do open up.

What success to me would look like is a team that probably won't be great defensively, not consistently at least, but one that can be good when need be, like a playoff series, but throughout a 82 game season can unload on teams in a way few others could.

It would be a team ran mostly by Rondo like the Celtics of old. Where guys like Melo would need to buy into their role. Which would be as a sharp shooter and only occasional ISO player. Like Olympics Melo. Where Rondo would have a stable of players that actually work well with what he is great at. Melo spacing also makes Finch's big man chaos style much more powerful with the threat of Melo there as an outlet.

If you can get that you could theoretically have a starting unit that should have a pretty easy time scoring a ton of points just amongst themselves on a nightly basis. Which is a good problem to have. Helps mask the lack of depth and could put our ceiling into the top 5 seed. It also helps with the fact that Jrue is historically and likely going to still be a high variance player. So you add a reliable scorer that helps offset that.

Again, taking the optimistic scenario here.

I think it's pretty damn clear that Melo doesn't want to be in New York any longer

Melo won't waive no-trade clause for NOLA

The Post reported last month the Pelicans would be interested in facilitating a three-team Anthony deal. According to an NBA source, New Orleans also would have interest in getting Anthony for its roster. Nevertheless, an NBA source told The Post that Anthony has told the Knicks he would not agree to waive his no-trade clause for New Orleans. – via New York Post

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks have asked Carmelo Anthony to expand his "wish list" of teams to join.
Another day, another Melo rumor. It's no secret that his preference is to join Houston, but the Knicks aren't willing to make a "bad trade" -- the Rockets would likely have to include Ryan Anderson's bloated contract and the Knicks aren't interested. Berman adds that the Pelicans, Cavaliers, Thunder and Blazers are all waiting in the wings in the hope that Melo expands his list. The All-Star forward recently had "great conversations" with Knicks GM Scott Perry, but it sounds like both sides are still determined to orchestrate a move away from New York.

I just can't see any scenario where Melo would be happy to play in NOLA.

Melo is in love with being in a large media market. No way he would accept being in New Orleans, IMO.

You would have to think he would waive it for Cleveland before us.

how is Cleveland a large media market?

If he came here, he'd bring over the media market with him considering what we already have. This is the NBA, where it doesn't really matter where you play anymore. If you're a big enough star, the market will follow you.

We'll find out how interesting we really are in a few days when the schedule is released, which probably isn't that interesting.

It's a message board with one thread about melo, why you so upset people are talking about it?

What else are we going to talk about? Our favorite colors?

Perhaps you can blame Trump for this thread, snowflake.

The media loves "super teams and Big 3's". They would be all over AD, Boogie, and Melo and unless they had major injury issues, the Pels would be a legit contender in the West and would stay in the national media spotlight all season.

I think he just really wants to play for the Rockets or Cavs so he can play for a contender while teaming up with one of his BFF's, either Lebron or CP3. I can see him holding out on waiving the no-trade clause for any other team besides those 2 with the hope the Knicks eventually cave in and take less in return for Melo.

I'm honestly shocked Melo won't waive his no trade clause to play with us for 1 fricking season. Not giving up a first but if it's Ajinca, Asik, QP, Moore, hill.. doesn't matter, get it done: Only have 1 shot at this.

Nobody is giving the Knicks picks or assets for a likely 1 year rental, Knicks also aren't gonna take on bad contracts that have 3 years left (Ryno).

We have what they need and probably what they are going to end up getting- bad expiring contracts. Just makes no sense why Melo would want to play in NY for another season when he can be on a legit team (him included).

Supposedly the Houston/NYK thing is back on with Houston searching for a 3rd team.

I think they are going to have a borderline impossible time finding one. No one in the West wants to turn Houston into a "super team", and no one wants to take on Ryan Anderson in the process.

I think Melo plays in NY for at least a part of the season.

I was playing around with trade machine yesterday and came up with this very unrealistic four team deal...

Bulls get:
Ryan Anderson
Tim Quarterman
Isaiah Taylor
Knicks 1st
Rockets 1st

Knicks get:
Kyrie Irving
Channing Frye
Chinanu Onuaku

Cavs get:
Dwyane Wade
Frank Ntilkina
Shawn Long
2 2nds

Rockets get:
Carmelo Anthony
Jerian Grant

Yes, I suppose they do. I just view it as they've opened up a cap space for next off-season to bring in a CP3 if he wants to play with LeBron or something along those lines. They get a guy they can cut in Long who can lower their tax hit and a young PG to mold in Ntilkina. Wade & Rose are both expiring.

They'd just have find someone to take Shumpert or Smith.
