Coach D always had middle of the pack defenses on a points per possession basis in his PHX days. good enough to win 60 games.
1.) I think having three net negative defenders splitting so many minutes and court time together will make that difficult to achieve. You had a 21st ranked defense last year, then you went and added two bad defenders and promised them significant playing time. One who is arguably the worst starting PF defender at his position.
2.) Context is also important. 05-06 D'Antoni was on the cutting edge of offensive efficiency and innovation. The league has since caught up and arguably surpassed him and has collectively been in the process of shifting personal to defend it. So his offensive potency is unlikely to be as strong relative to the rest of the league. So appealing to history is probably not a great barometer.
I would say you all have a ceiling of a 2-5 ranked offense and a 17-25th ranked Defense. You will win games but I don't think you go very far in the playoffs unless you catch some breaks.

I didn't get why the W's used a pick on Biyombo but he seems to have done work. It took years. I am impressed with posters showing long term patience on Diallo.
I'm more worried about the patience of the coaching staff. The fanbase has always seemed to remain optimistic about prospects. I can remember the continual optimism going back to Hilton Armstrong and Julian Wright. More recently you have Rivers, Aminu and Withey.
...The staff is less patient. Withey and Aminu would both be great haves right now for this team.

12/9 thru three in this SL game
he's active, very fast, and (gasp) can catch the ball
maybe this dude can play
it sure would be nice to plug him in

The thing I don't like that says he may be a few years and 20 lbs away is he will not go up in traffic. The silver lining is he seems to have decent touch on shots around the basket.

years and pounds will come
I think he can be useful for 10 minutes a game now though based on what he's shown. Or maybe I'm just desperate to be optimistic that he will be something good
we sure do need a break
