Veteran swingman Omri Casspi has been cleared to resume basketball activities after his recent thumb injury, league sources say,

Sources say Casspi is now evaluating his options and has drawn interest from multiple playoff teams, including the Grizzlies and Clippers.

I'm not really bothered by this anymore, MM made a good point on the latest In the NO that if we used Bird Rights on Casspi it probably means we're over paying.

I'd have preferred a healthy Casspi and having a more legit roster to figure out what works and doesn't with AD/DC. But with the injury I'm ok with them using his spot to kick the tires on a DLeaguer like Selden. If they like what they see that makes the 2nd rounder more expendable and I think they'll probably need that pick as part of their offseason maneuverings.

MM is taking up for Dell as usual. I assume we will hear about how this was ownership's fault at some point. It was a bad move. Having the option to stay over the cap and sign someone like Casspi who is friends with Cousins is better than having an extra spot to look at a d-leaguer in practice when you already have 2 d-leaguers on the roster.

If they wanted to kick the tires on Selden, then they could have cut Thompson. Don't waive a guy with rights.

You are such an idiot. Again, I have written more Fire Dell pieces than anyone. You are a waste of space

Whatever makes yourself feel better there big guy. You white knight for Dell consistently. I get why you do it and I get why it frustrates you when I point your bias. Your fire Dell articles and criticisms are always qualified and blame is always deflected..."Dell has made a few more bad moves than good ones"...but no one could succeed here.

But you can go to a player who you don't have Bird Rights on and be like, "Sorry, we wish we could pay you more, but all we have is the BAE"
And then the player leaves and goes elsewhere. That is a ridiculous reason for giving up bird rights. If a team does not want to pay him over a certain amount, they just don't do it. They do not need to hide behind a stupid transaction to do it. The reality in all of this is that, once again, our front office has proven to be incompetent.

I don't think they're ready to give up on Thompson. They say they like his defense and in Philly he shot 38.9% from 3 on 917 total attempts over 3.5 years. Shooting 25% for the Pels is an anomaly. They probably want to do what they did with Ajinca and Babbit, sign him to another minimum deal and then after just 1.25 seasons on the roster they have Early Bird Rights to sign him to a modest deal.

Even if they knew they could sign him next year for the minimum they'd lose out on the short path to Early Bird Rights they have by not cutting him and keeping him on the roster.

And maybe you never sign Crawford if you keep Casspi.

Point is, you guys are wasting so much time on something that doesn't matter either way big picture. You want to call these guys idiots? There are forty transactions that help you make that case better

I think it was pretty clear from last night, but looks to be official.

Hollis Thompson, whose second 10-day deal is expiring, will not be picked up by the #Pelicans  for remainder of season, league sources say.

It will be interesting to see who they go with to replace him. I'm not even sure what they'd be looking for. I guess they still need what they wanted from Thompson, a low usage 3 and D SG for the starting lineup.

IT will be be interesting if they look for another 3/D type of if they look at Crawford's success and aim for someone more agressive like Vander Blue.

Interesting note from @LarryCoon, if NOP re-signs Casspi this year, would maintain his Bird rights this offseason.

-Per Nate Duncan

This is interesting. They may have always had a plan to bring him back at the end of the year, in order to keep his Bird Rights this offseason.

I think you're blowing this out of proportion. I don't believe most of us were outraged. On the face, it just looked like a stupid move. Not a make or break move, but just not the best move that could have been made.

If it was common knowledge that he could be brought back this season and his Bird Rights would be retained, then it wouldn't have been an issue at all. The way I read the CBA it didn't seem like this scenario was possible, Duncan even mentioned on his show that he thought the Bird Rights were renounced when he was waived, but that he would check with Coon on that.

Huh. I did not know that. First time I have ever seen anyone mention that.

If you read my other comment, Duncan mentioned it on the pod with Verrier (I believe it was that one). I guess he followed up with Coon concerning it.

He should be treated as anyone else on here, not held to a higher standard, IMO. If anyone else posted that you wouldn't care.
