Every one of us were disappointed in his start, piss poor shooting, really looked lost, and overall scared.

His numbers shot up in December, but came a bit down to earth during January and slow start to February. Still, looks very promising, but he needs to be more consistent. I think the biggest thing will be when he gets more time he will improve overall. Shooters need to be on the court to balance out their up/downs, he needs to work on finishing at the rim though. overall pretty happy with his progress.

November: 37.4/26.5/90.0 shooting; 16.5 MPG
December: 43.5/47.8/88.9 shooting; 22.3 MPG
January: 37.3/41.9/87.5 shooting; 22.7 MPG
February: 35.2/30.0/--- shooting; 22.8 MPG
Season: 38.5/36.7/89.7 shooting; 20.5 MPG

Soon as the coaching staff allows him to play more than a garbage vet, he'll start to progress.

i don't think he'll ever be a 20PPG scorer, but a year 2-3 Klay Thompson is very reasonable to assume he will become.

Klay's year 2 and 3 average comes to a 17/3/2 type player that shot 43/41/82.

Buddy is a better FT shooter than Klay thus far, but if his attempts increase as well as his %'s become more stable, he will fit as the #3-#4 guy on the team (if we somehow land a stud sf).

I don't think its unreasonable for him to absorb at least half of Galloway's attempts and shoot somewhere around 12-13 per game, 7 from downtown. Even at 42/40/90 he'd average something like 13/7/3 attempts and score roughly 15 points a game. Hell, he's already averaging 3 RPG and 1 APG in 20 MPG.

Buddy Hield cannot finish, is a liability on defense, and wildly inconsistent. Hes at absolute best JJ Reddick 2.0

50.5% from within 3ft.

compared to: 54.5% from within 3ft for Tyreke.

The issue is his 3-10 and 10-16 which are 20% and 25.9% respectively...those are way below average.

so are reddick and mccollum. I don't think any of us thinks he's going to be a stud defensively

wildly inconsistent

the rotations and minutes he plays are as well. the inconsistency is definitely a rookie thing, but the rotations don't help him at all either.

JJ Reddick (LAC version) of the past few years is pretty good too.

16 PPG, 2 RPG, 2 APG shooting 45-48 fg%/40-48 3pt%/88-92 ft%

Honestly I do not think Hield is that bad on defense, he hustles really well and does a pretty good job of staying in front of his man. Is he gonna lock his guy up and cause 5 turnovers a game, no, but can he guard the 2nd or 3rd best guard/wing for the other team, yea.

You should probably give him 3 years before making statements like that. It took him awhile before he got comfortable with the college game and I'm seeing some parallels here.

Hmm wasn't about a month ago buddy surpassed Murray as best ever. I remember a lot of laughing emojis and even a few rolling on the ground laughing and the pure notion of putting Murray in Buddy's class

I think at his peak he could be somewhere around 18-20PPG

But I think he'll be around 12-15PPG next season.

is horrid. Evans at 54% is bad too.

so are reddick

Reddick isn't a lockdown defender, but he's not a liability. he is sound and knows his rotations. if Hield gets to that level, he will be good enough defensively

Hield looks like a 4th/5th starter at best. if his handle improves, he could be more than a shooter, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thompson comps are off for me b/c of his high/quick release. he can let it fly from anywhere at any time- Hield cant

the december surge in 3pt shooting notwithstanding buddy hield is not by any measure having a noteworthy rookie year. whether this is to be expected or whether this should be concerning in any way is up for debate

whats not up for debate is that his traditional and advanced stats range from well-below average to "cover your eyes"

He has been exactly the guy all objective observers had predicted. He can shoot well but finishing at the rim and handling the ball in traffic are poor and will need to improve. And he doesn't do anything else at an above average level to help you win (assists, rebs, steals, defense, etc)

This is exactly who he should be in his rookie year. The only thing that sucks is this franchise cares more about winning tonight than developing, so he has a quick hook because Moore is a better player right now

I wish this franchise would just play him 25-28 every night regardless and let him go through the growing pains

Buddy has a quick release. Very quick.

Sometimes I wonder if people just make shite up because it fits their narrative?

This year's top draft gets worse and worse in terms of quality rookie play.

Simmons is injured. Franchise high ceiling guys like Ingram and brown are disappointing. Bender and dunn suck. Murray and hield have been wildly inconsistent.

There's only one guy who's been consistent and above average all season and its Milwaukee's 2nd rounder

His release is quick but it's out in front of his face instead of high, above his head, so he needs space to get it off. Example: If a guy is on him, you will never, ever see him just rise up and shoot over him. Never.

never said he didnt. like Crewz pointed out, it is a lower release than Thompson which is a huge difference.

sometimes i wonder if people read what they want to try to fit their narrative

That might be a good observation in year 3 if they all still stink, but this is the norm for rookies. In years past, rookies have put up big numbers on bad teams but they were never good players

This year, every single team is trying to win so rookies aren't getting the minutes or the usage, so the raw numbers aren't as good.
