They're still over the tax, but with their depth chart I'm thinking they'd dump Novak before Augustin if they can.

The wings are where we need help and Tyreke is our backup PG.

Tyreke is our backup PG on offense. On defense, he doesn't cover PG's. Therefore, you need a guy who can defend PG's. Usually, that means a guy listed on the program as point guard

Dude, you didn't need to delete that post. You made decent points, even if most don't agree. Cole isn't comparable to Tyreke, but I'm just not sure how Tyreke fits on a winning roster. Basically, you need a long, legit SF who hits 3s at a respectable clip and can crash, as well as a elite defensive PG who can also hit catch-and-shoot 3s while not needing the ball to produce to go along with him. That's an odd combination to chase. Holiday, if healthy, could possibly be the 1, but I'm just not sure how an offense will flow if everyone is just waiting for Tyreke to bulldoze and dish.

Gee is known as a Telfair stopper and Steph Curry hounder.

Assuming reasonable health, we're talking ~15mpg v backups. Is he that much of a drop off from Cole?

I think there are differences between optimal, good, and acceptable

I think a Gee/Evans backcourt would be an acceptable option

The Sixers have not been active during free agency, but Philly post-trade has 14 guys under contract. The roster has pretty much taken shape

I'd expect Sixers to sign Richaun Holmes as the 15th man very shortly.

Sixers 14 under contract: Okafor, Noel, Landry, Thomp, Aldemir, RoCo, Stauskas, Hollis, JaKarr, Grant, Canaan, Wroten, McConnell & Embiid.

I hadn't looked at their roster before, but if they do plan to sign Holmes, then they'd need to trade or cut someone to make room for Cole. They certainly have cut candidates available, but are they really going to go overpay for Norris Cole when the roster is so far away from being competent? Nobody will be giving them a draft pick to do it.

What a complete joke. If that's what there running out there , I can't imagine what they would sign Cole for.

Also, if your Cole, why would you want to do that? obviously if they offer him Aminu money he's gotta go but damn.

Can they get a roster injury exemption for Embiid?

Yeah, they have a decent front court on paper/potential and nothing but bench players 1-3.

I'm not sure if they can. The Disabled Player Exception is for teams over the cap, so Philly might not even be able to apply for it.

I don't see why they would. It's not like Philly will sign better backups/mentors for their young bigs. Also, Philly's only at $49 million in salary, you shouldn't have a team with 15 guys on rookie or minimum deals, even if you're tanking. They probably bought out JaVale because he was a knucklehead, Thompson and Landry would be much better in the locker room.

They should be able to trade for a bad contract at PG and get a pick out of it, not sign Cole at a hefty price. Don't know why they want cole

Right. And this leaves even less space for Cole:

Free agent guard Pierre Jackson signed a four-year, partially guaranteed deal with Sixers, his agent Colin Bryant says.

It's starting to look like this is an agent leak meaning there must not be much action out there for Cole.

I would imagine they are more interested in flipping them for more picks later.

Sixers have no guards, but they were watchable most of last year. Okafor, Noel, Grant, Hollis, Covington, and Stauskas. That's not winning many games, but it is at least sort of interesting. They are most likely getting 2 more top 10 picks (their own and Lakers) next summer, plus maybe Saric.

Still several years away from being relevant, but they are interesting. Who knows if any fans will be able to last that long.

Where is Cole/Evans on that spectrum?

Certainly an acceptable option. Although, it would be nice if one of Gee/Cole was a decent shooter from behind the arch.

IN Gentry's system, I would say Cole/Evans would be better than acceptable because of their ability to push the ball up court with either guy and attack and kick in the half court with either guy.

Evans will be the "point guard" on offense, but Gentry's system is about moving the ball, not having just one ball handler. The more ball handlers and passers you have on the floor, the better.
