Nothing has changed regarding Demps' current job status. He's running the Pels front office. Nearly everyone in the org expects him back

However, there hasn't been a final decision whether Demps returns for '16-'17 by ownership. And press conf stretched too far into offseason.
lol

With NFL draft prep and horse racing coming up...blah who can bother spending a day, a few hours even, making a decision about who runs your professional basketball franchise. Deal with it later...

I wonder if the VooDoo would get priority over the Pelicans if Benson owned them?

This is why we need a different POBO. Even if they had no intention of hiring Thibs, the fact that the best candidate on the market is already off the market before the Pels even stop to decide if they want to change should tell them that the buck stopping with Loomis is untenable. And by the time they do decide, the top 3-5 coaches may be off the board.

I've wanted Demps to have a veteran NBA POBO since he got hired. Not necessarily a guy to decide it's time to fire Demps or whoever the GM is, but just a different voice that has different experiences and connections, and unlike your young up and coming staff, has been around long enough to make his own mistakes that you can learn from. Loomis can't do any of that even if he completely left the Saints to focus full time on the Pels.

Is it possible that the GM position Boom is always referring to is actually the General Manager of Michael McNamara's Social Media Operations? I feel this theory makes an untold amount of sense.

I definitely think Thibs is the best coach on the market. Not sure yet about best POBO on the market.

Most of these experiments haven't exactly worked so far compared to more traditional set ups.

With that said there are still a lot of interesting GM candidates.

And we all get to see our team waste the best big man talent since Kevin Garnett. Great.

Forget the dual role of Thibs, the point is that the Pels will always be late to the table for replacements if they have to decide things on the Saints schedule instead of their own.

I can't upvote this enough. I get that Loomis is Benson's guy, but how anyone thought bringing him in to be Demps' babysitter was a good idea is beyond me. He has no experience with the NBA and clearly has conflicts of interest when it comes to making these types of decisions. There is no reason to try to run these two organizations as closely as they have. I understand from a marketing/sales point of view it helps, but as far as management goes, the Saints and Pelicans need to be able to operate independently.
