Yes - The Yes Album
John Denver - An Evening with John Denver
Van Halen
Rush - Moving Pictures
Marisa Monte - Verde, Anil, Amarelo, Cor de Rosa e Carvão

Like with everyone else, it's super hard to narrow it down to just five. Others that almost made it:

Montrose
AC/DC - If You Want Blood, You Got It or Highway to Hell
Led Zeppelin - IV or Houses of the Holy
Queen - A Night at the Opera or Sheer Heart Attack
Michael Hedges - Aerial Boundaries
Pierre Bensusan - Altiplanos

quote:

DRA - Heartbreaker
DBT - Decoration Day
Wilco - Being There
Grateful Dead - American Beauty
The Highway Men - Highway Man
I would not come talk to you, but at least I would not hate the music coming from your side of the island.

Really tough question, and the stipulation for no greatest hits makes you think through actual albums, not just favorite artists. Mine if I had to choose this second:

Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here
The Doors: LA Woman
The Strokes: Is This It?
John Coltrane: Blue Train
Lucinda Williams: Car Wheels on a Gravel Road

Just missing the cut:
Willie Nelson: Shotgun Willie or Red Headed Stranger
Pearl Jam: Ten
GnR: Appetite for Destruction
Nirvana: Unplugged in New York
U2: Achtung Baby
Rolling Stones: Let it Bleed

I'll go a little further and limit it to one album per decade (more or less)I've been listening to music.

Let's say it with pictures:

Bonus disc (that none of you have heard of):
