Out of those two SRV hands down. However for me....

I saw Roy Buchanan's Goldtop Les Paul for sale on a forum a few years ago. It actually didn't cost that much.

SRV, but he played with extremely heavy strings, and I wouldn't feel right playing it. I would love to play Billy Gibbons' "pearly gates".

Of those, SRV.
But if I could acquire any iconic guitar, it would be the Red Special. Awesome story behind it. Maybe not as famous as other guitars, but it's obviously unique compared to any production instrument or even any guitar slapped together from production parts (VH's Frankenstein).

Garcia's guitar is nowhere near as famous as Lucille or even SRV's Number One. There aren't many people outside of Grateful Dead fans who would recognize that guitar.

FWIW, There is no one guitar named Lucille, BB King played dozens of different Black ES335-340-355 type guitars, the one in the picture is the a Gibson "Lucille" model that was made by Gibson from 1980-1985.

Willie's guitar has a mid 60s era Baldwin pickup installed in the bridge so it is basically an electric guitar, the wood and sound box add little to the character of the sound. Willie purchased this guitar from a music dealer under the condition that this pickup could be installed. His setup today also still uses a mid 60s Baldwin amplifier that was designed for use with the pickup.

This. BB has played numerous different guitars that look exactly the same. Why do you think they're always nice and shiny, like they just came off the line? This is the case for many musicians and "their guitar", it's the model that they made famous, not an individual guitar.

Not true. Quality acoustics with other holes/cracks in them can still sound amazing. I have a Gibson J-45 (the workhorse) and it has a 6 inch crack in the back of the body that you can see a little bit of light through and it still sounds as good as ever. I have no plans to fix it.
